Discreetly watch second bike TA 650 going though its MOT and I know that chain brings out worst of tester's OCD as it was marked as loose in advisory last year. I know it's in perfect condition and correctly tensioned but for him it's a fail for too slack. So he kindly gets the tools out and...

Hi All. The throttle on my bike recently became stiff to the point it would stick open. Before this it was working fine and there were no changes to the routing of the cables etc. I took it apart and it all looks ok. I put oil down the lines and they are totally free. I cleaned the carb end...

What was your best motorcycle trip this year? Our 2016 highlight was riding the Kola Highway in Russia: from St. Petersburg along the two biggest lakes of Europe and the White Sea across the arctic circle to Murmansk and beyond. We started the trip in SPB on 21st of June with the intension...

Hi,Honda NX650 1994 RD02 here, I was about to change front brake pads and while taking old ones out those two tabs' fall off from piston tops I put one back in place here ^ just to show you where it was.The thing is, that those tabs don't stay in place any more, it falls down if I put brake...

I've just returned from a trip to the Alps and my chain has stretched a lot to the point it now needs replacing. I've kept it in pretty good shape since I got the bike in Feb and think it's the bike's second chain (despite only having 7k on the bike when I got it). I assume the stock chain...

I did a long trip last month involving WAY too much motorway and speeds that no Transalp should have to sustain. On a number of occasions (perhaps 30-40 in 2,600 miles) the bike slipped out of 5th gear. This always happened under load at over 5,000 rpm, typically when climbing an uphill section...

Bought a centre stand for my 04 the other day off Rugged Roads. I'm not 'twp' here (welsh for - thick, stupid etc) but after everything was in place the usual wrestle with the spring ensured only to find that when the stand was lowered there is no return action! Lower it three inches and it just...

Guys, I've been after the answer to this for years - Can someone with an RD07a and a centre stand please tell me what the chain tension is with the bike on the side stand straight after it is adjusted on the centre stand, I'm positive mine is too loose - yes, I know loose is better than tight...

Picked up a nice enough bike a few weeks back, but the intension was to always have a project. Bike was stripped the same weekend and the frame went off for powder coating - unfortunately I choice the only powder coated in the area that has a faulty oven so after being away for 3 weeks it's...

A few weeks ago I had the headset bearings replaced at a workshop. They replaced the old set with the expensive tapered set from Wemoto. But even though there was a fantastic improvement in handling, there is still a faint knock when hitting small hard bumps, and I can feel it in the steering...

I have just had a new tyre fitted to the Vara ready for the new "season" and popped it back in this morning after cleaning the caliper and putting new pads in. I just checked the tension and line of the rear tyre before finally tightening up the rear nut and ran the engine up and popped it into...

I will be fitting a new (oem) front sprocket in the near future and was wondering what correct chain tension I shoud have while the bike is on the centre stand and at what point to measure it,i've found a couple of posts with a tension measurement while a bike is on a side stand but I feel it...

A few weeks ago while riding at low speed, i heard a bang and pulled to the side of the road. The bike would not engage. So i was not sure what to do. Luckly there was a bike shop 5 km from where this happened. After examining the bike, we removed the front sprocket cover to realize the sprocket...

I have just acquired a centre from forum member Laurie, cheers for that. Now fitting it, anybody got any tips? I found this link which looks helpful especially the bit about easing the tension on the spring. AfricaTwin.co.uk - XRV750 > Fitting a Honda Centre Stand to XRV750W (7A) Do I need to...

Chain tension, I recall reading somewhere that it should be set 7cm below the swing arm on the sidestand. Is this about right? Oil level, I presume check this with the bike standing upright.
