Split the cases on 97 XRV750 but now during assembly the rear cylinder cam shaft sprocket timing marks slightly off...could it be off one tooth on lower sprocket, any suggestions? As you can see in attached photo the left side horizontal mark is about a half or quarter tooth below the right...

I posted this on the Hubb....thought I'd share the link here in case anyone fancies it. Timing is not nailed on, but more a guide, and I'm flexible on duration. Would like to stick to Feb/March though,as I'd like to do another month trip in Sept/Oct to the Balkans/Romania. A month in March -...

Hi, I'm getting the engine back together again and I've set the timing chain to the T mark on the flywheel and the two lines on the cog. I just need to know if there is any way of knowing which way up the camshaft goes? I've checked the manual which makes it look like it doesn't matter which way...

Hi I am getting round to sorting the oil leak. Defo on the stator side and most likely that gasket but while I am there I will do all seals/gaskets at the same time - as far as I can tell, there is the main gasket - 11395MM1000 and a smaller one for the timing cover and a few o ring type seals...
  14. Mechanical Advice
Can anyone point me in the direction of some reading material that would explain the intricacies the valve/camshaft timing? I'm after something that would explain the effects of altering the valve timing - ie what effect altering the valve open times would have on the engine's performance I...

Okay, so not biking related! We've just had a new boiler and now have a wireless thingy on the wall. It is a Radio Tybox. What is confusing me, is you have two temp settings, Comfort and economy. Please explain?!!! The nearest I can guess is that comfort is the setting you set your heating to...

I have just replaced the pistons on my RD04 XRV750. I set up the timing using the FT mark in the crank case peep hole and then tried to get the two dots on each camshaft gear to line up exactly with the top of the cylinder block. This was not possible and I have ended up with the two dots...

When would you change a timing chain. Bearing in mind the sprocket is integral to the crankshaft. Don't want that to wear out do we;)
