Hello, im new to the forum and had a question about a bike i started rebuilding, the bike is a XL500 R Paris-dakar edition (1983 i think?) when i got the bike it was in regular condition, not running as some parts where missing, unluckily the carburetor is one of them. After checking around the...
After many hours of surfing the net to find a seat for my project bike , I found one that I like but its a custom built seat from the US.
The seat costs $225 dollars plus about $100 shipping and then Danish import tax and vat sticks about $125 on top of the bill.
Do any of our members know of...
I have had a major issue with an XL500R and wonder if anyone can help with info.
Trying to start it, the bike backfired and has blown the plastic top off the Keihin Carb. When I look closely I can see that the slider has jammed right at the top of the carb also which means the throttle...
I have a guy coming round to show me his Honda XL500R he has for sale.
The engine has 50000 miles on the clock , is there anything I should look out for with this bike apart from the dodgy front mudguard?
Anyone aware of any weaknesses with this bike:thumbup:
I am thinking of finding a 1980s XL500R to replace my knackered daily ride.
I have seen a few nice bikes for sale in Germany and a Paris Dakar version which was just outside my budget.
Is there anything I should look for when I am looking for one?
If you have owned one of these ,please share...

I'm looking at doing a Flat Tracker style seat conversion on me XL500R, something like in one of the pikkies below (ignore my crappy Photoshop skills, and the dreadful exhaust can which is being changed with a nice Vance and Hines one)
Has anybody done anything like this, or have...
Hi everyone :D
OK, so as per the title, as much as I love my XL500R, the front end is the achilles heel
My plan is to do an EASY upgrade - and get a complete front end, including yokes & wheel, etc, and whack it on - sort of plug & play
My thoughts were an early...
I just thought I'd post the carb settings for my bike.
Its a 1982 UK XL500R. Its pretty much standard except for a full Micron exhaust system. This is going to be typical of this bike, as the standard system tends to have rotted out after nigh-on 30 yrs :(
OK, the bike has a standard air...

So, as the bike is quite new to me, and been off the road since 1996, with 18000 miles I decided to check it out.
Its a bit of a pain, coz you...
