I have a chance to buy a resonable condition 1997 kickshaft assembly (even comes with idler gear) but I need it to fit my twisted 1988 engine.
Does anyone on here know if it will fit, either as a complete assembly or stripped just to replace the shaft? the part no.s for the shaft are the same on the net diagrams but the sprocket and ratchet gear is different (maybe just updated parts for strength)

Also are the generator side casings the same fit through the years or do they differ somehow, I know some are diferent in colour so just wondering if thats the only reason for the variation in part no.
The reason I ask is my casing has a snapped clutch cable guide on the casting:(

Thanks for looking

Both questions are interesting. I would buy the kickstart parts & try it anyway. If they don't fit, sell them again on fleabay.

As for the snapped off clutch cable bracket, Johnny Campbell, the Baja racer, had a similar problem. He came up with a replacement part that bolted on in place of the standard bracket. Not sure if he can still supply the parts or not tho'...
