Greetings from Denmark.
A few months I posted a picture of my sons latest project.

$_20 (2).jpg
This one has been on hold as jnr has spent all his money getting his other one sorted.
I donated a pair of CX silencers as the originals are donald ducked and told jnr he can have them if he can make em fit so it can pass its mot....
As the bike is at his mums place , I showed him how to make a cardboard template ,cutting it and shaping it to size which he went home and did.
Here are pictures of my sons very first bodge and I must admit ,I taught him well, I think.:D:D:D
Bearing in mind he has no workshop ,hardly any tools apart from what I have bought him and he did it in his mums greenhouse.

I think its not a bad job for his first ever bodge , I might see if help me design a bracket to support my flatside on my Dommie so the carb boot dont split....
Good to know that our kids listen sometimes huh?;););)
What do think chaps ,a bodger in the making?...:D:D:D

Thats bodging alright
is that a bit of bodger seniors favorite bodging material, the danish road sign ? :D
Nah! ,that is something I BOUGHT from the local hardware store pre-drilled as Danish road signs are made from 3mm Aluminium and would probably break.

This is the only picture he has of the bike with the CX 500 pipes on ,he will be bringing the brackets here tomorrow so he can paint them and fit them back on his bike after easter , balance the carbs then MOT time.
Its very helpful when his boss who hes been working for is mates with the MOT tester..:D:D:D

Not impressed with the exhaust clamp but it will do until his new ones arrive from Ebay..;)

One fun fact about Denmark is you only have to take your bike for its MOT one time and it only gets another MOT if you sell it to someone else..If you keep the bike ,it dont need to be tested again as long as you own it...

My son had a bit of bad news regarding his DT125...(bottom end rumble):(:(:(
Rather than let it get him down he has focused on stripping the carbs of his XS, ultrasounded them and spent today got them balanced and close to spot on.
Heres his latest video of his 2nd bike running which seems to be ok, he just wants to set the mixture spot on.;););)
He wants different pipes because the ones on it are off my CX 500 ,does anyone have an old pair of Dunstalls or replicas they are not using and would like to sell, I think the XS would sound cool with Dunstalls on...:D:D:D

https://youtu.be/Ovh2KoKzO_4

Once its spot on he is going to mot it and then take theengine out of his DT for a full strip down and inspection...

.
Oh dear :(, have you checked for play in the flywheel up/down , side to side, its a good indicator of main bearing condition,
good news is those little two smokers are a piece of cake to take apart,
about a hundred years ago when i was a fresh faced 17 year old i pulled my dt175 engine apart in my bedroom for new mains and crank seals,
had the engine out , bottom end rebuilt and back in the bike over a weekend

when I was 17 I wasn't pulling engines apart in my bedroom . I was pulling things in my bedroom just not engines . closest I got was holding a flash light while a friend of mine put a top end on my Honda 50 cub in a neighbours hen house when I was 16 . :D that xs sounds good I had two of them and a Honda 400four I wouldn't mind another xs 400 or another twin from that era I would like is a Suzuki gs 425 in red .

My son is starting to piss me off, he just paid to put his XS 400 through the mot and register it but he is not allowed to ride it until next July.
The bike needs new tyres which is going to cost about £150 which he will probably try and tap me up for his birthday next month..
As you say, those engines are a doddle to strip down and i told him the money would be better spent on fixing the engine so he has a bike to ride for the rest of the summer...
Being a typical teenager who knows best, now he has two bikes he cant ride and no money....:(:(:(
Just waiting for the phone call,......dad, can I borrow a couple of quid for some new tyres?.....;););)
He told me that one of his mates wants to buy it so I told him as long as I get my £50 for the camshaft I bought and my CX 500 Exhaust silencers back he can do what the ***k he likes.
Now he says that I told him he can keep the silencers which is bow-locks...

Effin kids..:D:D:D

He is taking it all very serious as I hoped he would.

that's shining like a crazy diamond . its done a new pair of mufflers and that's it . time to move on to the next bike . a 4 cylinder liquid cooled race replica would do the trick nicely I think . if one could be picked up for reasonable money maybe a streetfighter . depending on the price of a full genuine gasket set . it would be great practice for him to do a complete engine rebuild . while he is working in the shop . its not something that gets done every day it would probably help his cause in getting taken on as a bike mechanic too . even buy an engine and rebuild that . it would be easy to sell on again after getting done up and maybe even make a few quid off it . a gsxr 1100 lump would sell like a hot cake if it had some bragging rights parts put in . I had a go on a tuned water cooler gsxr 1100 and holy **** did it pull like a train . I know it all costs money but striping an engine and getting it rebored with the likes of wiesco pistons and all that would make it very desirable to punters . just a few ideas to help his cause :thumbright:

His Dunstall replicas have arrived today as I gave him some birthday cash towards them yesterday , his mum is buying him a pair of Heidenau K34s which are also on the way...

I got my heart set on doing another Triumph and just so happen to know where there is a 1970 Triumph T120 TR6 single carb pre oil in the frame for sale very very cheap.:compress::compress::compress:
We just have to swap some forks on a mates old and knackered XJ 650-4 and then we will try and go down to Germany to collect it...
I had to sell my last Triumph to buy my flat 15 yrs ago which broke my heart and I promised myself and Jnr I would get another one day....;););)
I will post another video when Jnr has fitted his Dunstall replicas....:D:D:D
The bike is 100% original apart from my old CX 500 silencers and a braided front brake line....
The bike is from 1980 and is twice as old as he is.......:rolleyes::rolleyes:

New chain and sprocket set and a pair of Dunstall replica exhausts his boss got for him for half price which was £50.
All he needs now is a pair of Heidenau K34s which are getting ordered next week and he is fitting the camshaft we found to beef up the horses to thirty five or there about....;););)

I am glad to see all the time I took teaching him is finally paying off...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Jnr has got himself into another workshop where there is a possibility of him being taken on as an apprentice and getting paid for his work instead of being funded by the Danish tax payer..
He has just fitted new bar end mirrors as he fancies himself as a bit of a cafe racer type of lad...;););)
He just needs to fit his new camshaft to get some extra horsies out of the engine and I have ordered a pair of Metzlers for him as his current tyres are beyond their sell by date.

Another morning of polishing...:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

As for my latest project, I have been trying to find a replacement rear wheel to get rid of the horrible 16 incher that is on it..

20668547_1897404966942178_1063735345_n.jpg

If I cant find a second hand replacement, it looks like I will give it to jnrs boss who said he will lace the hub up to another rim for £100 if I get the rim and spokes sent over...
I guess it pays having a son working in a motorbike shop...:cool::cool:

Just a qiuck update on this thread.
Jnr has move onwards onto a proper mans motorbike, he still needs to stick his 38bhp camshaft in his XS400 and probably electronic ignition too but he is saving those jobs for when he has access to school or other workshops.
We had a great day last weekend.:cool::cool:
21121873_1919009068115101_1012146850_n.jpg

I carried on where he left off and the bottom end is now sorted, just need to fit the head, rocker boxes and the electronic ignition stuff.
Jnr has been working on forks this all this week at school so guess what his first job is going to be tomorrow.
Our bike has Ceriani forks which I have heard were pretty popular amongst American racers.
Probably wont get much done as there is a football match we want to watch, as long as he gets the front wheel off before kick off I will be happy.
He has never seen a twin leading shoe set up before and I have never taken one apart so looks like we will both be learning something useful if we dont drink too many beers watching the footy.

Just when I thought I could put my feet up and get ready for christmas and focus my attention on putting the engine in my Triumph TR6R, jnr calls me up with a change of plans.:happy2::happy2::happy2:
Jnrs DT 125 has suddenly become under powered like it was when I borrowed it in the autumn so I told him to whip the head off to take a look coz I said the piston might be Donald ducked...

25395196_2051535021529171_813806759_n.jpg 25394050_2051535094862497_918493599_n.jpg

Guess what he wants for christmas? ;););)
I just got off the pohne to these guys and a new piston kit and small end bearing will be getting posted out to day with express delivery which means it could be here by 2018.

Yamaha DT125 DT 125 RD125 RD 125 LC 1975 - 1992 57.50mm (O/S) Namura Piston Kit | eBay

If the piston gets here in a couple of days, jnr might have time so his boss can bore the cylinder for him and get it buttoned up before his shop closes down for christmas next friday.

Yo ho bleeding ho, Merry Christmas every one.

PS. Jnr took me out for a beer and a visit to a tattoo parlour to get his tattos finished off..Looks kinda cool.
