Off to do Arctic Highway in July. Calais to Rostock. Ferry to Helsinki. Helsinki to Kirkenes. Kirkenes to Bergen. Ferry to Newcastle and then home. Anybody any thoughts, has done route, unusual things to see/ side trips etc.
I went up to the Nordkapp several years back - can't think of anything outstanding as it was all great! Oh yeah, the Lofoten islands were pretty nice. Best of luck, you'll have a great time ye lucky sod
When in Finland don't hesitate to try some of the excellent gravel roads, especially around Jyvaskyla (where most of the Neste rally stages are). The roads tend to be in very good nick, almost like tarmac, but way more interesting than the mostly linear A roads.
You can, with GPS and preparation, do most of the trip on gravel if you prefer. After a little practice it's possible to keep a very good average speed on gravel. If you're on AT/TA the bike will feel like it was specially designed for roads those surfaces. Vara should be more than capable too.
