can anyone recommend the best way to lower the engines RPM (transalp 650) whilst riding on the motorway?
is it best to change the front or rear sprocket?
Stick with the Honda front sprocket to help reduce output shaft wear, and go for a reduced diameter rear sprocket. You should be able to get away with a couple of teeth less and keep the original chain length, should you wish to go back to the original gearing.
And/or fit a genuine Honda 16t front from a 600 shadow or rd03 AT.
1t extra on the front is the same change as about 3 less on the rear?
I've run 1t extra on the front for years on a 650.
