You can do it by hand

Squirt the top rings with WD40 or GT85

Use a drift to release the top locking ring

Reach underneath and grab the spring with your hand

Turn clockwise to compress. (do 5 mm at a time to see how that feels)

reset the locking ring when you're happy with the ride height you're after

Much quicker and easier than a C spanner

Be careful not to overdo the compression

So you turn the spring by hand once the locking ring is undone?
Yes, I just used to reach in from the LHS and grab the spring. As you turn clockwise the ring immediately above the spring turn downward increasing the ride height

Don't put too much on in one go, 5mm stages
