It doesn't have to be 7 wire. They are only 7 wires because the +12v and GND wires are doubled up. 5 wire ones have heavier single +12v and GND wires. When the 7 wire ones are fitted, the doubled up +12v wires are connected together and the GND wires are connected together too.

The one shop i spoke to can get me a "universal rectifier" (5 wire) that the guy says works on the suzuki's. So its not a specific suzuki part. It is considerably cheaper (half the price in fact) of the 7 or 8 wire one that they can get.

Is there any reason why this universal one wont work one the twin? Any technical specifications that i should be aware of?

Yes you can use it. Basically there is 3 50Volt AC wires coming from the Alternator. The other two are ground and +12VDC or what ever the RR is specified to pump out.
