I got back from Germany at the weekend where we bought Jnr his very first project which he will be taking to Technical College to work on while he is learning to be a bike mechanic.
We bought him this 1980 Yamaha XS 400 2A2 model German spec which is restricted to 27bhp.

His first job is to take the engine out and he can give it a complete strip down to see whats needed.
As its a German model we need to fit a sharper camshaft ,its a single overhead cam and it needs to be stamped with the numbers 1MO as shown in the photo below next to the red arrow.

If anyone can help us out we will paypal you the cash if you have one for sale and are prepared to post it to Denmark..
I think my credit rating amongst some of you guys is good and you can trust this scouser..:toothy1::toothy1::toothy1:
Have a look in that box of bits that will come in handy one day in the shed/garage/workshop that we all seem to have.
I have found a couple in the states but they will only sell the complete head which is heavy on postage, VAT and import duty

Great news
Yes it is ,as you can imagine my son is excited that he has his first motorbike ready to ride as soon as winter releases us from its dark and icy grip and he has his first project which will be getting trailered to his college where it will be taken apart under the supervision of his teachers..
I have done my bit getting the bike and the camshaft now the rest is up to him....
Best bit is , I dont have to have his bike in my living room and mine out in the cold weather.
I think I deserve a dad of the year medal dont you?:blob8::blob8::blob8:

That cam should give an extra 6-10 bhp (wishful thinking) and wake up the engine that has never been thrashed.

I think it was just a case of right place at the right time.
I put a search on one of facebooks forums but I got a lot of bull sheet replies from idiot trolls so I deleted the message and tried again a few hours later when it was way past the trolls bedtime and after ten minutes a bloke here in Denmark contacted me and I had it off him straight away..:D:D:D
A right jammy g i t as we say round our way.
Jnr is working on his DT 125 all this week finding out why he was charging his battery at 16 volts which is probably the voltage regulator ,a new battery was ordered because 16 volts tends to cook them.We think the CDI is ok but the rectifier will get swapped and hopefully his bike will run as it should...I seriously hate bike electrics...:(:(:(.

We are still having a problem with the CDI on the DT125 so its getting sent to Holland to get tested ,repaired or replaced.
Carmo Electronics will sort it but they dont come cheap , it will cost around £200 but we cant find an alternative solution to the problem apart from selling the bike for spares...:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Anyhoo,
Jnrs boss suggested he take his XS 400 into work yesterday as they are not so busy to see if they can start it up.
Fresh petrol ,new plugs and battery and it fired straight up.
As you will see in the following video ,the old petrol was the colour of piss.

After they got it going ,jnr decided to take the carbs off and give em an ultrasound bath and discovered one of the carb membranes needed replacing so he has ordered a pair...
Jnr called me and told me one of his mates dad has got a 1982 Yamaha Virago 900 for sale in boxes for£200..:cool::cool:
His mates dad took the bike apart 10 yrs ago planning to build a cafe racer but never got round to it...
The bike was running when it was stripped so we are going to take a look and if we get it over the weekend , Jnr has offered to sell the XS 400 and use the money to build the Virago cafe racer...
Bloody kids eh? :D:D:D
I was hoping for a break from building bikes but I guess not..;););)

the virago may sound like a bargain but if jnr flogs his xs to buy it whats he going to ride whilst he's on a restricted licence ?
My CX 500 is registerd as 27bhp which he can (sort of) legally ride on restricted and I will have the Dommie to fool around on.:clown::clown::clown:
I offered to sell the CX but jnr said he would rather sell the XS and put his money into the XV920.
His mate was supposed to drive us over to look at it today but he bailed on us due to friday night out-itis so I will go over on my bike as soon as it aint so cold...:(:(:(
The XV has been in bits for 10 yrs so I need to have a look and see what the score is.

Just going to have a look and see if there is enough of a bike to make it worth buying .At £200 I could just sell the parts on ebay and easily treble my money if its too much work to put back together.
We still have two bikes of jnrs to fix and my CX 500 needs a few jobs doing so there is no hurry.
These XV 920s are rare as hens teeth but it might be more hassle than its worth.;););)
