If it's second hand-Yes you do need to register with datatag and it costs £15. Give them a call and tell them you've bought the bike and fill in the relevant form. Datatag contact the last registered previous owner and get them to sign a form. You're then registered on their database.
If new from a dealer- the dealer should fill in the relevant paperwork but call to check.

Simply contact us by email or phone and request a vehicle transfer form. This can be emailed or posted out to you. Once returned along with a copy of your V5/Logbook and the necessary checks have been completed we will send you a Certificate of Registration for you to keep for your records.

When I check the voltage to my speedo, neutral and tail bulb (not brake filament), I get a reading of 8.2 volts to each of these areas while the bike is running and due to the 8.2 voltage, those light bulbs will blow. Upon simply turning on the ign, I get a correct voltage reading...
