hi guys.
i have a 1998 africa twin and the original exhaust is leaking so i would like to put a race can on it to hear the proper sound of the v twin.
a friend gave me a can off a vfr 400, would it suit as i dont want it to effect its performance.
also i need a barrel for one of the front forks as its strained and this might fix the alinement of the fork, so where would i get one.
thanks in advance for your help.

If the bore of the silencer matches the pipework there shouldn't be an issue. The original at silencer had a small aperture but my current silencer has similar bore all the way through. Pipes are deliberately blocked with baffles too so because it comes from a smaller bike wont necessarily be a problem.
The gasses speed up through a smaller pipe which won't necessarily restrict the flow negatively.
Only one cylinder goes bang at a time so the exhaust for a 4 cylinder 400 only has to cope with a 100 cc cylinder. On an AT the exhaust has to muffle a 375 cc cylinder, nearly 4 times the size. If the exhaust is road legal for a 100 cc cylinder it will be strangling a 375 cc one.
thanks for the feed back lads.
i also noticed this, i had my petrol tank resprayed last year and the person who did it must have had the cap off and theres a film of paint starting to flake on the inside.
I noticed this as i fill up with petrol.
any idea how i would clean out the tank on the inside??
is there a special solution that could remove this?
im gutted this has happened.

That's a disaster, that loose paint will cause real issues if it gets as far as the carbs.
I would imagine that over spray which has been immersed in petrol on an unprepared surface is going to come off fairly easily, so what a lot of guys do for internal rust issues is to half fill the tank with petrol and throw in some ball bearings or nuts and bolts and shake the bejaysus out of it, this should dislodge any of the remaining paint, which can be got rid of by thoroughly washing out the tank. I would also suggest that you strip down the fuel tap, clean it, and blow it out with compressed air as well as replacing the fuel filter. Finally, I think a carb strip down is essential to make sure that no semi solid paint gunk has got in there.
dont know if its an after market can,
there is no markings on it but its definetly off a vfr 400
