just for fun, how many towns with food named after them can we think of, and after a week i'll plot them on the gps and see if theres a viable tour taking in my two favourite pastimes, eating drinking and riding. hang on thats three, eating drinking riding and.......hang on, thats four. you get the drift.

melton mowbray pork pie
stilton
edinburgh rock
brighton rock
dublin bay prawns(not UK, but who cares i like shellfish)
cheddar
eccles cake
wensleydale
kendal mint cake
dundee cake
dover sole
devon cream tea
cornish pasty
caerphilly (its easy with cheeses, they are nearly all named for their place of origin)

i did this at work and we got dozens but ive lost the list.

The village gave its name to the Goosnargh Cake, a type of caraway seed shortcake biscuit. Goosnargh Cornfed Chicken and Duck is championed by chefs including Gordon Ramsay.[6]

Well I'll be!!! Lived about 6 miles from Goosnargh for over 20 years and never heard of Goosnargh cakes. Duck, yes, cakes never. I am going to have try one now, and one from goosnargh itself too.
I beleive that they sell them in the post office, assuming of course that they hav'nt closed it.

google spat this out ( just so you know that I'm not making it up )

Goosnargh cakes originated in the village of Goosnargh in Lancashire - one of those English placenames which you just have to say out loud for the pleasure of saying it. Goosnargh cakes are in fact type of shortbread or shortcake, so are actually a form of biscuit.

:D

I would suggest Brussel sprouts but no one in their right minds would call the smelly balls of puss food.
