Event now full

Its on - off roading in Galloway forest.

Date is the weekend of 29th/30th/31st March - that's Easter weekend 2013. Arrive Friday 29th, set up camp, socialise, eat&drink. Ride through the forest on Saturday 30th leaving at 9.30 to 10am. The ride will be about 120miles in total about half of which is on forestry tracks. There is fuel near the start, but I haven't confirmed the exact route so not sure after that, so there may be more U turns this time. Whatever aprt from "the hill" we will do something different to the last two times. The off road bit is most of the middle section of the ride and concludes with a ride up a 2000 foot mountain. The tracks are easy well graded forestry tracks easily doable on an AT, a TA, a Vara, a GS and even on an R1200RT (although easy might not be correct in that case). A dedicated off roader is overkill for this event, I have promised the SFC no dirt bikes this time.

The Scottish Forestry Commission charge for access to the forest at £100 for the event and £5 per bike. I will need £10 off each rider assuming we get 25 (the maximum). Post me cash, a cheque (pay Austin Winckler) or bank transfer - same as last year if you have it or pm or mail me for details.

Post to El Generalissimo Austin Winckler, 40 Croston Road, Garstang, Lancashire, PR3 1HR.

There is a limit of 25 riders.

I need to have a copy of your motorcycle insurance in my hands by Monday 18th March to send onto the SFC so they know participants are legit and sticking to rules of the event that I have agreed with them: email austin-at-winckler-dot-org-dot-uk (without the dashes) or post as above.

Base for the weekend is the Galloway Activity Centre, Loch Ken. Link Camping costs £8.00 per person per night. In addition to the camping there are various accommodation options as below. Please book direct with the campsite AND DO SO QUICKLY if you want to take them up.
Bunkhouse – 4 people per room (4 rooms available)
Large Cabin – 4-6 people
Small Cabin – 2 people per cabin (3 cabins available)
Yurt – 6 people (1 Yurt available)
Tipi – 4-6 people (1 Tipi available)

The camping is all sorted. I will be providing the campsite with a list of names - real and forum names. When you arrive report to reception to book in and pay and make sure your name is checked against the list. If no one is around just pitch your tent near the big climbing tower and deal with reception later.

I have completed the SFC's application form, updated the risk assessment and will be signing the contract on your behalf.

Next post has list of participants - first 25 get to go, rest are on the reserve list.

I have probably forgotten some stuff so keep checking back here for updates - which will be clearly identified.

I have been PM'd about the dirtbike point in my OP....

it actually goes back to the original line I spun to the SFC about the event - the bikes would be large bikes ridden to the event where we would be more concerned about not dropping them than ripping up the tracks. The only thing that really concerned them at the time was the public perception of SFC allowing people to raz about on dirtbikes and this could be seen as an open invitation to all and sundry. I promised a well behaved event on big(ger) bikes.

There hasn't been a complaint or anything (in fact I get encouraged to put on more than 1 event per year); its just that I want to keep the ethos of the event being larger bikes where riding on the forestry tracks is not the norm for the bikes or rider.

(Its not a big point and please don't reply arguing with this or saying that an AT is a dirtbike or whatever. It is not about absolutes, its about how the event looks to the SFC and the public. An event dominated by 250cc KTM 2 strokes (or similar) wheelieing down the tracks or making rooster trails at every start and turn will almost certainly mean we wont be back next year).

Missed last year cos of silly nonsense like work or something equally foolish....

Yes please. Camping again... for some strange reason! Unless someone wants to share a 2 berther cabin, bearing in mind the time of year....? :)

Edit: Will be stopping in the quality accommodation on site, not the tent... :)

I won't make this either as I'm in Welsh Wales also playing on big bikes off road.

Steve,
I'm up for sharing. I took a very cosy bunkhouse last year, whilst the campers wrote their names in the frost of their saddles in the mornings! Lucky for them it didn't rain as well!
PM me if your OK with it and I will book it.
