Heine Gericke UK in administration as of yesterday. Maybe the flood of 'special offer' emails I get from them will subside now...
Not closed yet, still being run by administrators but I guess there will be cuts as a minimum, shame for the staff, I know how it feels...

I've noticed on my wanderings through France that bike shops etc are quietly closing down. I last saw this in the 80s when Thatcher destroyed the economy except for her pals, and the barometer was bike shops.

Suitable really, it's a working class thing, and she hated the wealth producers.

So auf weidersehen Heine, and the others who went quietly. The fraudulent bankers and politicians have done us in and we'll let them do it again.....nothing surer.....

Did you notice that when banks commit theft/fraud, it's called "mis-selling" and nobody goes to jail. Cute, that...and when politicians fraudulently claim duck ponds, porn, sink plugs, fake rents, travel and the like, only 3 out of hundreds were charged? It's a fine old world....Luvverly!

I once spoke to my MEP about something and he referred to Westminster as "The Fun Palace on the River".

Hmm, that explains a few things. I was in HG last week and the chap said they don't get many customers and a lot of branches has ceased stocking some suppliers (although apparently they're franchises over here). It is a shame. Mind you their women's range was terrible except for their gortex jackets which were fantastic.

Does anyone know if it's a permanent move? ( there are diff bankruptcy clauses including protective ones and the admin might not be permanent).

I think the quality of their products fell and that was key. Big shops, lots of staff, needed to sell the more expensive end of the market or high turnover at the lower end. Managed neither. Their high-end products were not as good as alternatives and the bottom falling out of the markets in general meant the turnover of basic products must have fallen off. Always seemed empty when I was in my local last year.

I thought the HG own branded stuff was very good for the price.

Hhowever I too have noticed that it wasn't a one stop shop as in previous years, due to the individual shops having to reach sales targets.

Just a pity as previously mentioned that HG could disappear from our high street, & our choice of bike shops are further reduced.

Let's hope stores can be saved as PaulS mentioned the Chester shop staff are brilliant, never had a problem, but had lots of coffees & great laughs evey time I visited, including major purchases after I brought my AT.

Dammit.
I liked HG. Almost all my kit came from there. Expensive but never a problem if it went wrong.

In saying that the stuff my son bought before Christmas has gone wrong. Both the jacket and the trousers (all top stuff) had stitching fail during normal use. Nothing structural but velcro on the jacket and a bit of reflective material on the trousers. Both changed for new without quibble but it does show the quality control has been suffering as of late.

Then there is also the cheap oil other bits and bobs.

And of course last but not least the lads that worked there. Good bunch of blokes in my local place. I just hope they can find a way to keep trading.

Oh marvalous, Me n Sylv went to get her some textile troos the other day, came out with £900 worth of gear for £600! she got a gortex jacket textile troos and waterproof boots and a pair of gloves, and I got a TRG desert jacket which I think is great quality. The kid in the shop was very helpful but never said a word about closure (Doncaster branch) What about warrenties on said goods? I will be ringing them to find out me thinks.

I've got a pair of old winter trousers that I keep getting repaired because they were so good (i damage them, such as burning a hole when the heat guard was off the bike exhaust) but HG no longer make that model. The replacement stuff was flashy but rubbish by comparison.

I brought this up last year on here, the writing was on the wall then. It's a real shame, I've always liked their gear :(

I'd get over there now then Vader cosPolo went into receivership in the winter...still trading as far as I know, but on dodgy ground...:(

Shame, as I've done quite well from Polo too.

Only bought a pair of summer gloves from HG, as they never seemed to have the right sizes in stock. The Bristol chappies were helpful but had bugger all stock last year.
