Hi all,
This is my first post, so please let me know if it is in the wrong place!

I am looking at importing a TA from France, via a friend of mine. Will this massively affect the price of insurance? If I save £500 on getting it here and taxing / registering it, will I end up paying that anyway with higher insurance?

All of the price comparison site seem to suggest not, but I know everyone advises not to trust them!

surely once you've registered it on a V5C it becomes just like any other UK Transalp ?

Thanks Wicky, will do. Do you have any recommendations for good insurers? Cheaper the better obviously, but are there some that I should be avoiding?

Carole Nash and Bennetts seem to be popular for motorcycles. Or use a comparison site. eg https://www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk

Hastings and Bemoto are also mentioned on other bike forums

Some policies offer "free" European breakdown cover, which can be useful for trips.

Price can be reduced by declaring "no pillion use" or keeping bike in a garage overnight, or opting for a higher claim excess

Bear in mind the 600 transalp is VERY easy to steal and "hot-wire"

My limited understanding is that provided you ensure to inform the insurers that it is an import and is left hand drive then you shouldn't have any problems :toothy8::toothy8::-D:-D

if it it is a 600 it will qualify for classic insurance which may be cheaper.
