I was thinking that when I read a report on the new Tenere in Bike. probably more off road than the TAs even the 600 are soft roaders in standard trim.

MY TA is still going strong after all these years. Just took it out for a 200+ mile (50/50 dirt/road) run a week ago and it held it's own against several other bikes. I upgraded the squishy forks with Race Tech emulators and the shock with a with a Hagon remote reservoir unit. I've off-roaded Moab, Baja, and the TransAmerica Trail with it.
I was all excited about the new Africa Twin when it came out until I found that it was over 100 pounds heavier than the TA. I would love to see the TA name revived on new "small" bike at 600cc or 650cc. Better still would be a CRF450L Rally. However, the trend seems to be Bigger, Heavier, and more techno crap. Maybe Royal Enfield will shoe horn their new 650 twin into the Himalaya frame and get serious about quality control.

I totally agree, honda needs to do battle with the tenere. I rode it at the ABR festival and it felt very good. If I had the funds i would be ordering mine now. hoda should look very seriously at the yam because i think they are going to sell a very big bucket full. until I can afford one I will keep on transalping, I take mine off road often, its great, its not quick or powerful but it makes me smile..

I agree, smaller and 'simpler' adventure bikes are the future. I have been saying this for years.
