Although he is dead, escaping from justice if he is truly guilty, I'm sickened to the stomach to hear some news articles about Jimmy Savile.

More than anything, I am truly di$gusted that many so called celebrities are now crawling out from under their rocks and claiming that it was general knowledge about the rumours. How nice of them to decide to say something now, not then, when these cases of abuse were apparently happening. I honestly hope that all those that pipe up, too late to help anyone, have sleepless nights and carry their shame to their graves.

(Esther Rantzen, Janet Street-Porter, Liz Kershaw, and I'm sure there'll be more creeping out of the woodwork)

fekkin right Bob... and all these production staff that worked at the BBC who allegedly turned a blind eye should be prosecuted as far as i'm concerned. Who could turn a blind eye to child molestation? Scumbags, the lot of em!

They should be tied at stakes and burnt alive, so they can all hear the others scream so they know what's coming.

Innocent until proven guilty , unless on trial by the media and public it would seem ,
We have Michael Jackson , and OJ Simpson that are not guilty though , and what did that cost , and what did it prove

+1......maybe he was guilty, maybe he wasn't, but we'll never know as he's not around to defend himself. Oh, pardon me, he must be guilty because the media says so!

... Liz Kershaw ...
I read his morning that Liz Kershaw did raise the issue at the time and was asked something along the lines of whether she was a lesbian if she didn't enjoy it. Different times and different attitudes eh?

It's not 'the media', but countless independent victims who were too ashamed or afraid to come forward at the time and lots of other people who turned a blind eye that are now saying what went on. Are you seriously suggesting that it's feasible that every single one of them is lying as part of some media-led conspiracy to discredit the thoroughly normal non-fondling, non-groping, non-raping, non-molesting pillar of the community that was Jimmy Savile?

The level of proof required for a criminal conviction is "beyond reasonable doubt". I suspect that if he was alive today, he would be in no hurry to admit anything so we would never actually "know". Instead, we would hear the verdict of a jury who listened to the evidence including the accounts we are hearing and his defence. I can't really see how he could have offered a defence against the massive body of compelling evidence had this surfaced before he died.

It's a shame that at the time it was always the victims fault so they didn't come forward and that it was customary to turn a blind eye. I'm sure there are many more that haven't come forward.

Do what you want with the messenger but don't shoot the message ;)

Whether he was guilty or not, it doesn't exonerate those who suspected or knew it was happening, from saying something before now. As others have said, 'He who does not speak out, is complicit.'

it seems like such a paradoxical situation this one.

on the one hand you've got certain people(who maybe should have known better) being complicit to keep a lid on things so as not to affect money coming in in sponsorship so that people are benefitting from it.

but on the other hand, innocent children have been violated in the worst possible way and in the way that gets every one sickened to the core.

what can possibly come from this now you.ve got to ask.

jimmy savile cannot face the music now he's planted in the ground( and he wont know anything of the vandalised memorial)

the victims cannot sue for damages because his estate will have passed on to his inheritors and even though i'm not sure of the law exactly but they surely cant be held accountable for jimmy's crimes whether or not they have been officially established and proven in some kind of inquest.

maybe they could sue the beeb if it can be proven that there was any kind of cover-up but what a messy situation.

Why have they waited for so long?
If he was really doing what they report why have they waited so long to come forward, the parents or guardians should have been aware of what was happening.

Innocent until proven guilty
Well, as suspected, it's looking pretty compelling now. Commander Peter Spindler, the Met’s head of specialist crime investigations, is quoted as saying “Savile was a predatory sex offender”. As he won't be tried in a court of law, does that still make him innocent?

From the information coming to light, it does look increasingly likely that Savile was a filthy scum playground-trouser wearing wrong-cocked rapist nonce into girls, and an occasional boy, as young as 9. So was the £40 million for charity actually guilt money? Maybe he felt that made him untouchable or maybe he really became a reformed character? We'll never know. Who would have suspected though. He seemed so normal and well adjusted.

I wonder who else is going to be implicated now Pandora's Box has been cracked open. How many other showbiz abusers are going to be dragged out of the woodwork loudly protesting their innocence? It's real life Paedogeddon unfolding before the baying mob.

Alan you git, that did make me chuckle :D

On a serious note, all the millions he raised (and let's not forget he's alleged to have used that as a defense for the media not `outing` him) does not make up for one child abused. I don't care if it's £100 million, it's not worth one single child abused as far as I'm concerned.
