I'm a XR 400 owner, a riding instructor at HART and I also love my 2008 FZ1n.
I have snapped 2 exhaust studs and can't quite get a drill straight on them to use Easy Out. Do I need to drop the engine out or does someone know a simpler way?
Hi Tim. The best way to remove broken studs I know of is not with a easy out. Remember as you screw a easy out in it slightly expands the broken stud therefore making it harder to turn. It may be easiest to have the motor out. Using a tight welder build up the end of the stud. During this process heat will soak into the stud down in the thread. Pop a appropriate size nut over the wee titty of built up weld. Now weld the nut to the wee titty. More heat into the stud. You can give the nut a tap while doing this. Now gently try and remove while spraying wd40 or similar into the thread. Boom... done!
