Exactly as it says on the tin really.

Following the rebuild it didn't run well on idle, almost running on one cylinder at times but when you gave it some beans above 3k revs it went for it (or that's how it felt after not riding for a while!)

Does this sound like carbs?

The mechanic that has it is tring to say compression/valve timing but I thought if that was the case it wouldn't go like stink high end revs and not after a rebuild with a reputable company?

Idle jets?

I thought it ran better when it first fired up than now but that could have been excitement.

Sadly I'm running out of time hence a mechanic balancing the carbs and would rather have an idea where to look than wild guesses, any of the more simple suggestions greatly appreciated.

Lucky the mechanic still has it or petrol and a match would be coming out!

Does it sort of surge as you twist the throttle? I have the same problem on a recently rebuilt 1970 scrambler and any figure it out either.

It was surging a little on the road but that was the misfire nd getting to the revs where it ran well.

Thinking carbs unless someone tells me that wouldn't create the lack of vacuum????
