It seems to have garnered more news than what's going on in Crimea, I guess because it's a mystery.

The worst case scenario does have to be considered, BUT, I'm of the opinion that there is still a glimmer of hope that everyone on that Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 could still be alive.

What is known so far?

HERE is a BBC article

Your opinions and theories please?

Flight engineer on board, he would know exactly how to disable the transponders, could also have been working with one or more of the flight crew.

If it was a hijacking, I'd say they would have gone northern track if they were planning putting it down somewhere. If they were just going to down it, they would have done it a lot sooner than after 7 hours of flying. If they were making a statement, I think they would have hit the Petronas towers.

Where is it now? Who knows.

What about the 20 employees from the company Freescale who specialise in military work, specifically on cloaking stealth technology for the DoD. Then the 2 ex-navy seals who were looking after a special consignment on the MV Maersk Alabama who were looking after the cargo until it arrived and was put on board flight MH370, they were both killed in suspicious circumstances!!

Something tells me this special technology was stolen from the US and on-route to China, what happened after that is unclear, perhaps the Americans located it on board and hijacked it and flew it to Diego Garcia.

Whatever the outcome it's sure going to make a blockbuster film....

I do of course hope like most that the passengers are well and will be returned safely once the US has worked out a plan without compromising their special technology.

There is no way on earth that with modern tracking radars that it went down un-noticed, they have not traced the black box signal as it never activated because it never went down.

Another theory is that the two stolen passports used by the two Iranians hijacked it and flew it to a remote airstrip in Southern Iran, there it will be stored and converted to a weapon of mass destruction to detonate over a city such as Tel Aviv.

+1 for aliens - anyone who suggests smurfs is obviously just part of the lunatic conspiracy theory fringe...

Logic would now say it is most likely there. But where is the question.

Too many conspiracy theories going on, I'm surprised they haven't been to Area 51 yet.

I'd say, most logically, everything was OK, or at least appeared so at the time of the last transmission. Something must have occurred after they handed over from Malaysian airspace. Literally 2 minutes later it disappeared from the screens as the transponders stopped working.

The pilot then executed a steep left turn and turned due west. Following the course they turned on, would have taken them directly to Langkawi airport. This has a runway long enough to handle a 777. I believe the pilot, after encountering a problem, made a turn to get to the nearest available airport and get it on the ground.

Loss of communication and transponders suggests electrical malfunction. Most likely a fire for them to make such a turn and head for the airport.

With the autopilot still in operation holding the now altered course, if they pilot & co-pilot were overcome by fumes, the plane would have continued on until either out of fuel or the damage caused the aircraft to lose altitude.

I think if you draw a line out from it's last position, across Langkawi Airport, heading out to sea, it will be somewhere along that line.

Just my thoughts.

If they can disable the transponders etc. it wouldn't be too hard to disable the phone signal relay.
Thanks for that John, knew there had to be a simple explanation.
Doh, I'll just get back to breaking more rocks with a large sledgehammer ;):D

Cheers

For any would-be investigators out there, who would rather try turn off Coronation Street and do something helpful, here is a link to the tomnod site, where you can use satellite images to look for the missing plane.
