Just curious as to know how many members on here have a history of competing in any form of Motorsports weather its bikes, cars, trucks, 4x4 anything realy :D

My thoughts came after Sohoeasy put up the thread on the MotoGP and we started talking about Hillclimbing so not wishing to go of topic here's a thread for it :toothy10::toothy10::toothy10:

I used to Hillclimb all over the country from 89 -94 started in a Caterham 7

Then went on to a Pilbeam MP43c

So come on don't be shy show us what you used to do or indeed still do :toothy7::toothy7::toothy7:

I did trials back in the early 80s. Best ever was 13th in a national but that was a bit of a fluke and I suspect some of the good riders must have been away on holiday.

In my youth I used to road and stage rally. Started with a Datsun 1200 coupe and progressed through many cars to an Escort Mk1 Twincam (using a 1700 Kent engine though). Later I had the opportunity to do some 4x4 Trials with the Army.

I've also done a couple of Trials events on a Yamaha MT175DX when I was a mere youth but I try to forget about those as I wasn't that good at it.

For pictures you'll have to find my ex-misses ... and if you get them back from her can you give a copy, please :(:rolleyes:

I once came 11 places behind the World Superbike Champion in an Enduro. There were only 13 teams though.

I also came about 60 places behind the late great John Deacon in a mid 90s Cambrian Rally, but to be honest he cheated.:D

Hmmm, hill climbing. Frad, did you ever come across a guy by the name of Alastair Crawford? He campaigned, very succesfully, a "slightly" modified red MGB around the North of England in the 80's and early 90's. This thing started with a heavily modified 1800 cc engine and ended up, if I remember correctly, with a ex-TVR 4.2 Litre V8! :D

I remember being over at Aintree race course one time, many moons ago, when he was still trying to iron the wrinkles out of the V8 conversion.

Oh, and for most of it's life it was road registered! The exhaust of this thing was loud enough to set off the ultrasonic car alarms in the power station car park, when he used to bring it in to work on fine weather days.

No dont think I ever came across him, Aintree is a Sprint track as opposed to Hill Climb but often same guys do both, as I was chasing championships I never did Aintree its a quick track tho :thumbright:

I was in the championship race with a guy in a V8 MGB but his was Orange went well till he put in the scenery at Loton Park  ended his season.

Before my time there was a guy with a Moggie Minor with a nitros v8 in it that was road registered too Nick Mann I think his name was, quite a peice of kit :D

Golden years of Hillclimbing when guys used to turn up in their cars put slicks on race, change tyres and drive home again, its all got a bit serious nowadays :(

Ah well, just thought you might. Harewood hillclimb (near Wetherby) was one of his more usual haunts I watched him compete there on numerous occasions. As far as I know he never pranged his race car.

As for getting serious, he now part owns and runs a Gould Judd GR37! Serious piece of kit.

Those Goulds are the dogs wotsits :thumbright: I am going to see if I can get to a couple of meetings this year so I will introduce myself to him if I go :thumbright:

Mine's limited to bikes only as a club racer / privateer / power ranger. Had some shop rides and some development rides as well

Yamaha YR5 1 season
Yamaha YDS7 1 season
Yamaha TZ250 1 season (dealer bike)
Yamaha TZ350 1 ½ seasons (dealer bike)
Yamaha TZ750 1/3 season (sponsor owned shared ride) - this one had an on/off switch instead of a throttle !! and cost a furtune to run
Honda NSR 488 1/2 season (shared ride - dealer bike)
Yamaha R6 trackday bike
Yamaha R1 trackday bike
Honda VTR SP1 1/3 season and trackdays

Funds meant I never had the best of kit and was underpowered so never really came anywhere above midfield unless it rained when I would get top 10 finishes

No photo's that I can supply

Also played around in non competitive mode. Done several 2 and 3 day car thingies though over the years in various forms in the following

Audi Quattro S1 and S2 - Castle Coombe
Porsche 968R & 911 Carrera2 - Millbrook
Honda NSX - Millbrook
Caterham Superlight - Silverstone
Lotuse Elise R - Silvertone
BMW3 series - Brands Hatch
Formula Ford - Brands Hatch

Off road in cars on various rally and 4x4 days

Sierra Cosworth 4x4
Peugot 209 GTi
Golf GTi

Camel Trophy Team in Disco's and Defenders at Eastnor Castle for 4 days

I'm done with all the quick stuff which is why I ride sedately now :angel10:

In my younger years I did trials and motocross. Got a bit of bling that my grandson 'borrowed' one by one. Glad I did it and have the knees to prove it! Now I just enjoy touring but I do look back with fondness.
