That's activemoto from this here forum, master fiddler and shed scientist on the subject of the alp.
He's just been the length and breadth of the america's on a couple of alps with his mrs so if there's anything he doesn't know about the alp you don't actually need to know it.
your money not mine,
loads people tried various things on here and still searching?
Mine does between 54-59mpg with std gearing and a Pipercross , so for the price of a airfilter its worth it . But not what he suggest if it could have been done before It would be on here and we would all have done it:thumbright:.
The upgrade front sproket is a popular thing and easy too as is Airfilter But changing the timming . let someone better qualifeid on here to answer that sure someones already tried, basically the Alps a very old engine by design and the Alp 700 is a step forward with efi and extra valve butreally a extra cam and higher compression and free flow exhaust would be better but then the reliability would suffer.
Think what Activmoto says makes perfect sense, mostly to my mind its a case of how much you spend for how much you save, if you do the miles its probably worth it especially with the price of fuel rocketing yet again. I always feel dubious about advancing ignition more than standard but think what has been done here will have been proved by now as at least one or two people have already experimented with it and I hav'nt heard any disaster story's to date, and I have to be honest Im'e always tempted by most things like this as a general improvement even though it would cost me money overall (I only do low miles now) anyway good luck to him.
