Thanks to Phil (PigUgly) for joining me for a days trail riding in the Peaks. I think we both had a great day. :thumb:

Left my home at just after 9 for a 9:30 meet with Phil. From out meeting point it was a 30 min ride to the first trail just leaving Maclesfield.

A nice easy trail to start with before attempting Charity Lane. Normally this is a fantastic lane.....but the last time I went down it on the way to the Xmas meet I managed to fall off on ice and had to abandon the bike (only to be rescued by Phil the next day :thumb:).

Anyway, we got half way down and at exactly the same spot I fell off at last time the ice started.

We managed to get the bikes passed this ice to a suitable turning round point. It was a bit awkward but we managed to ride back up passed the ice without coming off.

Next was the old Buxton Road which is just passed the Cat and Fiddle pub. A fantastic lane.

After this we did a few more trails until we reached Monsal Dale. This is a well used trail and ends in a steep rocky decent.

The photo above doesnt do the steepness and difficult rocky terrain justise. This was not an easy decent!!!!!

A few more fantastic trails to a small village called Stoney Middleton. From here we accessed a very muddy trail.....I know how much Phil likes mud!!!! And thanks for pushing me over the ruts which resulted in Phil covered in mud from my spinning rear wheel!!!!

Then onto Jellies for a fry up lunch:thumb:

After lunch another easyish trail before making our way to Houndkirk moor....one of my favourite trails.

Not soon after the above photo I was trying to get passed a mountain biker and decided to hold back, park up and wait until there was a more suitable spot. My kindness resulted in a wobble and me dropping my @. Nevermind.

Then we went to Stanage edge. This was my second time down Stanage and it was just as scary the second time round. A really steep rocky decent. We stopped and let some 4x4's go down.

Then it was our turn to nurse the @ and Transrat down.

Only to catch them up again when the 4x4's got stuck. We waited patiently behind then some cheat bikes appeared and didnt want to wait. They weaved through the 4x4's....so we followed only to get to a steep rock face that we decided the big bikes would not like.

Again, the photo doesnt do it justice. We studied the terrain for several minutes trying to pick a sensible route down. Then 3 quads appeared from the opposite direction. Then more cheat bikes came up....and again they didnt want to wait so just ploughed on....

and tried carrying their bikes up!!! I thought it was a bit rude to be honest.

We were both sweating loads by the time we reached the bottom.

Then we tried Banford Clough. Id done Banford before but down remember it being like this. I can only assume 1 of them wanst Banford. Ive checked the map and cant decide which one we went down today...but only to say it was like having a nightmare. The ground was very steep and very muddy. Rear brakes were applied, wheels locked up. Too steep and muddy to apply front break. I was glad when we were at the bottom.

A nice ride throughb Pindale followed before heading to our final 3.5 mile trail near ChapelGate. Fatigue must have taken over as I dropped my @ again.

Phil escaped with no drops, dont think he was trying hard enough.:D:D:D

Had a great time, got home just before 18:00. Knackered now.

I am in so much pain this morning. Had a lousy nights kip as everytime I moved by entire body hurt. I am aching everywhere. Luckily, all I have to do is sit down all day. I rally need to start getting fit:(:(

Russ, there was plenty of mud as well. But mud comes a close second on my trail hate list. After ice of course.

Just let me know when you are free after your baby is born.....cant be long now?

Rob, I asked Phil when we finished if the afternoon trails were suitable for you and your mint TA. Apart from Stanage edge the other trails were on my to do list....we decided you would have given them a go!

Thanks for the confirmation Len. I dont think I will be heading down Banford again until it dries. Cant say I enjoyed it. Was not in control at all coming down. Dont remember it being difficult when I went with Al.

Nah, Phils just better off road than me. My feet are all over the place trying to keep the @ up right. Im on the pegs, next I have 1 foot down, then the other, back on the pegs, on the floor....and so on. Phil doesnt seem to have the same problem.

Many, many thanks to Mike for organising & leading a great days' riding. Great pics too :D

I started off a bit steady but got into it a bit more after the fryup at Jellies:rolleyes:
We covered a wide range of tracks through some wonderful countryside - although looking at the scenery wasn't always top priority

Banford Clough was quite scary - don't let the little piucture tell you otherwise! Sending the heart racing just looking at the descent, Mike went first & almost dissapeared out of sight after the first crest - it is really steep......
I thought I'd switch the engine off & control it on the clutch - wrong, back wheel just locked up & I went hurtling down this steep muddy track - gaining speed

Still, all good fun - can't wait to try it again (up & down) when it's a bit drier :D

Phil
