Had a fantastic day out with TheTimKirby and Rolly. Left mine in Runcorn at 08:00 and met Tim and Rolly at Capel Curig (6 miles West of Betws-y-coed) just after 09:30. Me on my @, Tim on his 33 year old XL200 and Rolly on his TTR 250 Enduro.
Did loads of trails all around Betws-y-coed, all possible for big bikes at the National???? I'll be happy to lead a small group if people are up for it. Some fantastic terrain, rocky tracks, steep tracks, moorland tracks, forest tracks, swampy areas. The route has a bit of everything.
Started with a warm up byway at Capel Cruig then hit a tough rocky uphill trail over the mountain.
Over the other side and another trail leading right past Dolwyddelan Castle.
We managed to virtually ride up to the castle door.
The view from the top of the castle.
Looking back towards the castle.
From here it was a couple more great trails leading back towards Betws-y-coed for a fuel stop before continuing on for a lunch stop in the middle of nowhere.
After lunch hit some "not well used" tracks. I took the wrong line and almost went over the handlebars as the @ stopped dead in mud.
Took 2 of us to free the beast from the mud. No way was it going forwards.
Found some mud to play in. Great fun. The little bikes went first just to carve the way.
Unfortunately for me all the little bikes did was dig the ruts a bit deeper. My @ didnt stand a chance. Took 3 of us to free it.
Found a nice water splash. Time and Rolly went to the side. I looked for a brach to gauge the depth. They said the only thing around big enough was me....so I led the way through. I didnt fall off so the others followed.
Ive been up this trail twice before...and failed both times. Rolly went first and got to the top. Tim picked the wrong line but managed to get going with a bit of a push. I finally managed to get the @ to the top.
On the last trail Tim was getting a bit too fast when the track suddenly decended down some rocky steps. He took the wrong option up the bank. Took 3 of us to lower it back down. Thank god it was a light bike!!!!
Had a great day. Good to meet you both again Tim and Rolly.......
As for scores on the doors. The XL did really well fot Tim (see previous posts for number of times Tim has come off his @) and only resulted in 1 fall. Me and rolly came through with a clean sheet again.
