Had a fantastic day out with TheTimKirby and Rolly. Left mine in Runcorn at 08:00 and met Tim and Rolly at Capel Curig (6 miles West of Betws-y-coed) just after 09:30. Me on my @, Tim on his 33 year old XL200 and Rolly on his TTR 250 Enduro.

Did loads of trails all around Betws-y-coed, all possible for big bikes at the National???? I'll be happy to lead a small group if people are up for it. Some fantastic terrain, rocky tracks, steep tracks, moorland tracks, forest tracks, swampy areas. The route has a bit of everything.

Started with a warm up byway at Capel Cruig then hit a tough rocky uphill trail over the mountain.

Over the other side and another trail leading right past Dolwyddelan Castle.

We managed to virtually ride up to the castle door.

The view from the top of the castle.

Looking back towards the castle.

From here it was a couple more great trails leading back towards Betws-y-coed for a fuel stop before continuing on for a lunch stop in the middle of nowhere.

After lunch hit some "not well used" tracks. I took the wrong line and almost went over the handlebars as the @ stopped dead in mud.

Took 2 of us to free the beast from the mud. No way was it going forwards.

Found some mud to play in. Great fun. The little bikes went first just to carve the way.

Unfortunately for me all the little bikes did was dig the ruts a bit deeper. My @ didnt stand a chance. Took 3 of us to free it.

Found a nice water splash. Time and Rolly went to the side. I looked for a brach to gauge the depth. They said the only thing around big enough was me....so I led the way through. I didnt fall off so the others followed.

Ive been up this trail twice before...and failed both times. Rolly went first and got to the top. Tim picked the wrong line but managed to get going with a bit of a push. I finally managed to get the @ to the top.

On the last trail Tim was getting a bit too fast when the track suddenly decended down some rocky steps. He took the wrong option up the bank. Took 3 of us to lower it back down. Thank god it was a light bike!!!!

Had a great day. Good to meet you both again Tim and Rolly.......

As for scores on the doors. The XL did really well fot Tim (see previous posts for number of times Tim has come off his @) and only resulted in 1 fall. Me and rolly came through with a clean sheet again.

Hello Russ,

unfortunately its not sorted yet. Still a definate wobble, not as bad as before so the recent work has helped. Let Tim have a go yesterday. He knows what he's on about and can still see the wobble so I know its not just me being paranoid after all the work thats been done. He gave me a few things to check which I will get round to one evening. My K60 rear is extremely worn now. Was hoping to make it last a couple more months but I think the run up to Galloway at the end April will be its last outing (or I may just get new ones before this run out..havent decided yet...would like a wobble free trip up the motorwat as I will be laden with luggage and the missus). Got no plans to use the bike for the next month as Im pretty busy with other things. So will probably replace front and rear tyres when I get back. After that theres nothing left at the front that can cause a wobble. Everythings been replaced or repaired! Strange as when I put Paul-S road based wheel on the wobble went away. So I am hoping its just a badly worn front, although there still looks to be lots of life left in it, but as Ive been told it could just have worn unevenly.

I can live with the wobble for now but would like piece of mind to what the problem is.

Mike

Nevermind Sam, theres always next time. Was thinking about May some time.

We talked about getting further down into Wales to try some new trails, around Barmouth area so would involve a couple of hour ride before starting the trails. We will see what happens.

Tims XL is good and its been restored well. Cant believe its 33 years old. Didnt have any problems at all with it all day. Coped with all the terrain the other 2 bikes did.

Will be making sure the front and rear are aligned, Tim did tell me how. Will make sure both wheels are spinning true...will check for buckle in rim. Theres just enough rear tread to get me on the 400-450 mile round trip I estimate Galloway to be so will replace both front and rear tyres when I return. Then, if theres still a wobble I'll start the process of investigation again.
