hi, been looking at starter kits for a 400, anyone know what parts are in the xrstuff kit, have seen lots of trx starter parts on ebay
so was hoping to collect the parts a lot cheaper, do you need to split the case? to fit the kit......
cheers

Fitting trx400ex parts involves use of the crankshaft (different to xr400)
So yes, cases will need to be split.

On a standard XR400 you fit a crank extender to the standard crank. Works fine, just remember not to over tighten the flywheel bolt.

For an aftermarket kit this may be correct, but trx400ex utilises a different crank I'm sure.
Correct, but to fit the TRX crankshaft, you have to split the engine cases. Using the crank adaptor is a simple modification that has proved very reliable.

So your saying you can use all the trx set up and a crank adaptor (from where? Link?)
This would be much easier, I was un aware of this.
Don't you also need a trx casing to fit the actual starter in/through?

Maybe we have our wires crossed ::

You will still need a replacement stator cover and starter motor etc. But by using a crank adaptor you don't have to strip the engine to fit a electric start kit. It is recommended that you use a uprated stator to supply enough power to recharge the battery. The standard stator will work, but the amount of charge is very small.
