Hi All

Anyone going to the Stella Alpina this year and using the Bokki Camping campsite just up the road from Bardonecchia (on the RH side just beyond Melezet) is eligible for a 10% discount; negotiated by Mario Artusio's local rally-organising mate Mr Borello, mention on booking in that you are there for the "Stella Alpina Motociclistica".

Hi,

2007 was my last visit but I can't make it this year :(

However I am seriously tempted to re-visit next year and do some more col's to the south of Bardonecchia :thumbright:

Stella? I went up on a GSX750 in 89 with the now ex wife on the back. We fell off after getting stuck in deep mud. Her leg got trapped under the bike and burnt quite badly...................Shame that:p

Bokki camping's bike area has a lovely gravel ramp down to it  and it's a bit out of town. Hotels are well priced in the town and you can have a bevvy without having to ride afterwards too ! I'd love to go, but it certainly won't be before 2011 for me (if at all) :)

As dysan noted, the www.stella-alpina.fsnet.co.uk website is a personal one (mine!); there is no official website for this event.

For those that don’t already know, the Stella Alpina is a largely unorganised event. Riders head for Bardonecchia (located close to the Italian border with France at the end of the Frejus tunnel) and then ride up the largely unsurfaced track to the 9872ft elevation Colle del Sommeiller on the Sunday – the 2nd Sunday in July every year.

Many years ago, camping was arranged on the local football pitch but Italian law now limits most camping to licensed campsites. Many riders now generally stay in one of the hotels in Bardonecchia or camp at one of the local campsites. Some riders camp way up the Colle del Sommeiller track at Refugio Scarfiotti which seems to get round the licensing issue.

If camping, be prepared for cold nights. It may be July and hot during the day but at night, camping at around 4000ft amsl in Bardonecchia (or at around 7000ft at Refugio Scarfiotti) does get cold.

Don't be put off by the prospect of riding off tarmac. The Stella is intended to offer road-riders an opportunity to experience roads which they would not generally; the track can be negotiated on any well-ridden road bike. (Over the years I've done the Stella on bikes as diverse as a T150 Trident, BMW R100/RS, BMW K100/RS, BMW R80/7, TR6R Tiger and KTM 950 Adventure).

See you there?

I've done the Stella four times and would not hesitate to go again! It's the adventure of a lifetime.
The only bike franchise to turn up is BMW, they usually have a tent or gazebo with refreshments. It's amazing how all these people turn up, well into the hundreds, some every year, to camp in the area and assault the mountain on the Sunday.
A great event with a medal and a t-shirt available! I have been invited this year but due to work commitments I can't make it, a great pity!
