Guys,

Apologies for this silly question ,but I am new to transalps, can a 130/80-17 tyre safely replace the standard 120/90-17?

I am having the rear wheel rebuilt and was wondering if a slightly wider rim would cause any problems?

Many thanks

John

I think a few of us have 130 80-17 rear tyres, I have one on the standard rim and it fits perfectly.

I got a new set of BT 45 last year, have done about 4000 miles on them and pleased with improvement on Trailwings. Was Cleaning wheel at weekend and noticed the back tyre that has been fitted is a 140/70-17!! I had asked for 120/90 but the the garage has fitted wrong thing, will be having words next time I am in. Have been happy with handling but would not have done it through choice and will be going back to 120/90 when it is due to be changed.

130/80 for about the last 70,000 miles. No problems except they keep wearing out - about to get my 5th or 6th rear. :(
