Just a quick heads up for anyone considering one of the projects above which were posted by DS99.

I bought the second bike, the "1999" bike (which is actually a 1998 model. I had it shipped up to me via Shipley and it is exactly as described by the seller, who was completely honest about all of the issues. Whilst I can't really comment on the other one he has for sale, the '90 with 25k on the clock. I can report that I have done a basic job on the bike I bought, whipped the tank off, checked fluids, emptied the carbs, connected up a temp tank and popped a fresh battery on. It fired up straight away and purrs like a dream. Don't get me wrong it is a tatty mess so I am looking forward to doing a full strip down and restoration on it.

On my experience I reckon the other would be a worth while project, with hindsight I should have got them both but that would be greedy.

its a different bike. the wheels are a different colour and the paint job looks slightly different. see the line on the tank and the colour of the exhaust heat shield etc, exhaust silencer is different, and the transalp decal is in a slightly different place

it's hard to tell without seeing it. the front sprocket could be shot, it could jump out of 2nd gear (i've owned two that started doing that around 50,000 miles), who knows.

it started off at £2,300 i think, which is a bit of a joke price

I sold one like this a couple of years ago, same colour, same miles, and it fetched about £900

the fact that it has been on the market a while should tell you it's overpriced.

if i were in the market for one like this i would not pay more than £1,300, regardless of how many extras are installed on it

and it has the following MOT advisories:

-----------------

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
  • Front Stop lamp switch does not operate in accordance with the requirements (4.3.2 (a) (i))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
  • Front Brake pad(s) close to minimum limit (1.1.13 (a))
  • Rear Tyre not fully seated on wheel rim
