with everyone out on their bikes and gardening or doing any other things that nice weather suits I decided to start up a thread about nothing in particular so if anyone had anything they felt like saying about anything at all . they could put it in hear and it wouldn't be out of place . with the weather so nice the last while I got out for a few grand spins and I enjoyed myself to bits maybe a bit too much both my back tyres are wearing down as they do when you enjoy nice dry roads a good long spin. the continental conti escape on the back of the transalp has done well 12500 kms and there is still a good bit left I will have to check the debt of it with my cheap while plastic vernier callipers I only gave 6 euro for local . so there you go now you have it that's the way she goes . if you went green laneing to watch a race meet bike night at a pub washed the bike mowed the lawn or trimmed the hedge or painted the gate or what ever and you just feel like a bit of a chat go on don't be shy :thumbright:

I ordered a pair of foot peg extensions from fleabay and after waiting 10 days they are still not here.:(:(:(
After paying £10 postage i would have thought they would be here by now, so much for the speedy post office.
I asked jnr to take my foot pegs into work and ask his boss to show him how to weld as its a great skill to have and one I wish i had learned years ago.;););)
Tire Auto part Automotive tire Vehicle Engine

Once the extensions arrive ,I can bend em as required and give em back to jnr to finish off.
I have one small concern about testing my scrambler once they are done...
I noticed a while back my headers were glowing red hot and was wondering that now I have my flatside fitted it will be creating a bit more heat and it might not be a bad idea to remove the heat wrap off the header to let the air get at it when I am out riding it ,what do you think ,take it off or just leave it on?

I am no expert but I would imagine heat wrap would be like a lagging jacket on a hot water cylinder it would keep in the heat and it would transfer back up to the barrel if pooching about off road it would heat up a lot being air cooled . I know that if I am riding the forestry tracks in the summer the rad fan comes on on the transalp . I know you put the wrap on to tidy up the pipes but maybe take it off and use high temp paint would probably be a safer bet . I was a welder /fitter by trade so it came in handy to make the link pipe to fit the gsxr 750 end can and 3"x 3" plate on the side stand on the transalp . I need to chop a bit off it as its scoring the swinging arm . I have a bit of room in the shed now I had 38 fertilizer bags of blocks hogging it for the last couple of weeks I stuck them back into the coal shed today . I still have to remove a bit of clutter but I am getting there . at least I can work on one bike while the other is still in there now . welding is handy enough once your shown there is loads of youtube stuff on it . I only have a couple of arc welders one in a beauty and the other looks like shit but works grand . I would love an inverter welder and a scratch start tig torch and bottle of gas but its a lot of money and that's a bit scarce around these parts . oh by the way there is a horrible looking mint green ntv 650 with only 23000 miles on e bay uk for £1200 its got a windscreen a top box end can and new tyres . it might suit someone as a work horse nothing a few rattle cans or a spray painting mate couldn't fix . I would love to get me paws on it :thumbright:

Perhaps this is the place to make a confession!! I haven't ridden my AT for 3 months!! There, I said it! I bought a Porsche 911 and don't seem to have the desire to stop driving it yet, the guilt of leaving my AT in the conservatory is quite strong! On the plus side, it still only has 16k on the clock and lives in a centrally heated conservatory so its not been mistreated, just slightly neglected!!! lol

well if I were a hairy beast ( catholic priest ) I would give you 3 our fathers and 3 hail Mary's to say and play ac/dc highway to hell on the stereo of your 911 very loud 7 times and dark side of the moon 10 times for you penance . you lucky lucky bastard :D I like cars a lot too I seen a mint black 85 reg 911 a few days ago as a gas station . I was really checking out the car I think the geezer was wondering what I was looking at he had a real cocky looking head on him . if he don't want people looking at him he should have bough a Toyota yaris for **** sake . we had a beauty of an 1987 Toyota starlet in blue hear for a while it was metallic blue and my woman couldn't get over all the attention she was getting while driving it . I seen a mint Austin 1300 like basil faulty's branch whipped one only a saloon . the lady driving enjoyed the attention I maybe it was just the buzz she came bombing around a corner . well wear with your 911 and may it give lots more manic grins :thumbright: speaking of cars I seen a 2005 Austin martin in black at the nct garage a few days back holy mother of Jesus when he took off hard in in it the snarl out of it probably a v 10 engine . it was a treat for the ears .

Thank the lord I play my AC/DC cd in the 911, I knew I was doing right by it!! lol. I also have a yellow 1993 Mk2 MR2 which I have had 15 years, originally bought new by my sister so a family car that I know every single day of its life! I get as more looks in the MR2 than the prosche, its a real love it or hate it car in limited edition Toyota yellow! I love the car but decided that the endowment should be used to buy fun things and not clear the mortgage!!!

When I was 19 my first car was a Mk1 Ford Escort 1100.
Gutless little beast it was but it was all I could afford being a teenager....;););)
Anyhoo ,one day my mum and dad asked me if i could run them to Manchester airport so they could have a two week holiday in Spain away from us kids who promised to behave ourselves while they were away..(no parties or girls in the house).:rolleyes::rolleyes:
On the way home from the airport ,foot to the floor at a mind blowing 65 mph I blew up the engine just outside one of my mates garages..
He told me he had a 1600cc Mexico engine with a twin choke webber carb he would sell me and help me fit.:compress::compress::compress:
After a couple of days arsing around we got it done and it was a beast....
I picked my mum and dad up from the airport and on the motorway home forgot I had my mum in the back and put my foot down....
When the second choke on the Webber kicked in all hell broke loose..:D:D:D
My dad sussed out straight away it wasnt the same car and thats how my need for speed was born...
I so wish I had that car today because it was the fastest car on our estate for quite a while and with drum brakes on the front there was no shortage of scary moments...
Now I am 60 I would love to build another fast car like an old mini with a Honda V-Tec motor in it to make life more interesting....
A Porsch 911 would be awesome but I prefer to build my own stuff on a smaller budget..:D:D:D

Land vehicle Vehicle Car Regularity rally Coupé

It looked exactly like this one minus the alloy wheels and arches ,Cibie spotlights, disc brakes and decent pain job....

that's some looking escort you couldn't go anywhere in it without getting dragged into a chat about times go by and cars lads had :D my very first car I owned was a metallic brown mk1 4 door 1300xl with rectangle headlights black vinal trim. and red 1300xl badges on the front wings . be nice to have it now that was 20 odd years ago . I never had it on the road legal but I had a good buzz in it drifting it around picnic areas before the name was invented until it got ruined in a flood . speed is very cheap these days a Honda civic 1.4 saloon non vtec from around the year 2000 if driven hard can be a total hoot a prelude mk5 2.0 is cheap speed too a little more costly to run but a blast to drive and as reliable as an anvil . plenty of go and they handle great . they can take a lot abuse use as a family or rag the shit out of it if your in the mood the only driver task is watching the dip stick to make sure you have oil in it . good brakes night breaker bulbs and the lights are strong .

If I ever come into some money an old mini with a 2.0 litre Honda V-tec B18 motor is on my to do list ,you can put a Hyabusa engine into a mini and jack the horsepower way above 200bhp if you have the driving skills...
There is a place called Z cars that do mini conversions but they aint cheap
I had a mini 1275 about 10 yrs ago with race tuned head, larger valves and a four branch manifold and exhaust.
Me and Jnr used to love going looking for GTI Golf boy racers just to make em look bad...
I was at a petrol station filling up one day and a bloke offered me £3000 for it..I should have said no but it was starting to get typical mini rust spots..;););)

an old buddy of mine who was a rocker in London and Birmingham with the double zero mcc and had a gold star and a rocket gold star done up to the last gave me a metro 13 it was more rotten than Sir John Lydon but the engine was good . he dropped it up to my brothers . I was well chuffed thinking I might try and pick up a mini 850 and drop the engine in . next time I called up I says where is the metro ? gone on the scrap lorry . he reckoned I probably would have done nothing with it anyway the prick . he was probably right though I have a habit of leaving nice cars sit for half a decade :clown:

I just looked up the 2005 Austin martin they have a 5.9 v12 HOLY **** my ears knew well they had heard something pretty special . I live way out in the sticks we don't get much of them big fancy old cars come up out er Dublin :D if a lad have a few pound around hear he will usually get himself a big boring as **** bmw like the rest of the sheep so he can be the same when he arrives at the golf course . they even manage to find the same style goofy stripy polo shirts and boating shoes . maybe there is same as every other ****er shop that I don't know about . I have to find it I want to be the same :happy6: hears some more engine sounds to treat your ears to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGrut8IhEu0

my front sprocket is getting hooked well it is well hooked its a JT same as the back whats healthy enough as is the silver coloured RK regina x ring chain . I fitted a scottoiler some time ago but before that I kept the chain well brushed with oil . so before long I will have the lovely job of getting in there with a small angle to remove the mig welded on sprocket . a shit welding job by a slurry head bastard who owned a mig welder . next time I will get it tig welded by a mechanically sensitive type of chap . well to be positive about it he probably did get it on there pretty square but probably put too much heat in there damaging the metallurgy of the sprocket with the heat and cooling with the water can ? handy tip for the day drink green tea its a cure all an anti toxin good for all the organs helps weight loss it will even make your bike lighter on fuel and rear tyres and back shocks . well it stands to reason if your ass isn't as fat the bike wont be pulling as much weight around :thumbright:

Been out on my Deauville the last few days, good to get back on the road. The forks were leaking and when I stripped them down they had a lot of scoring along the stanchions.
Priced a new set and was shocked at how much they were.
I did some research and found the CBF1000 forks are almost the same in size and travel(5mm more for CBF) so I found a set from a decent breaker in Tralee and fitted them.
They work really well, but the front mudguard mounts are different to the Deau so I had to make some mods and fabricate some extensions to allow the old guard to fit the new forks.
I really want to get my Montesa 315 rebuilt as well, finding a few parts is getting harder now, I'd like to make it road legal and get it registered for the back of the camper to take around as its so light.

I spent the day working on my CX 500 with my lad in the sunshine in my back garden(bank holiday)...
As it was a nice sunny day, the plan was to replace the fork seals then go out for the day riding.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Once we got the fork seals done we noticed that the radiator top up reservoir had lost its mounting bolt and to get at it we had to remove the exhaust system and put a 6mm bolt in to bolt it back up...
The middle section of the exhaust had a bit of surface rust so that was wire brushed off and painted then all put back together.
By the time we was done it was late afternoon and getting near feeding time so off to the local shop for supplies...
Suffering from the effects of too much sunshine we settled for several larger shandies some German bratwurst and an evening in front of the telly watching action movies.:D:D:D
I love spending days like that with my son and he is handy to have around to help to fix up our bikes.

your right about that . I was out for a good long ride yester evening it was half 10 by the time I got home the bike was destroyed with flies after only being washed so I washed it again today . I am in the middle of changing the front sprocket on the Transalp not as easy when its welded on ;) I have it ground off just got to weld on the new one now .

Re: Content provider

it sounds great you have to do a fly by video when you get it home . nice looking tyre very modern looking it will handle nice with them my ones had tyres too but I cant remember . it was nicer to ride than my xs650 heritage special . I don't know if it was the back tyre or kackered shocks but it was scary in the wet . I sold it off very quick I was disappointed with it after wanting one for years and having the 2 xs400's before it I was expecting more I suppose .

Re: Content provider

great for cycling though and small capacity bikes . I remember cycling to work it was all down hill great fun with a fresh fall of snow a pain in the ass on the way home even worse if i stopped to cash my check in the pub and I drank a couple of pints of Guinness . that stuff used to wind me . so apart from the lack of hills there must be some cool stuff is there any old houses castles and standing stones and that kind of thing to go and visit ?

You can usually see lots of Danish standing stoned.....:D:D:D
Mostly at music festivals and biker parties....
The only thing cool about Denmark apart from the totty is their Viking history and that was over 1000 yrs ago ,apart from that Denmark is pretty quiet these days...:rolleyes::rolleyes:
A few famous castles and the like and thats about it mate....:(:(:(

Re: Content provider

you have bikes to ride food to eat a roof over your head your able to walk around on your own two feet . I met a hell of a nice bloke riding a trike recently he is wheel chair bound . so much we take for granted . sun is shining weather is sweet a new tyre came by yesterday a new split link this morning front sprocket welded on to the Transalp there is a while left on the rk regina x ring chain and Jt that's on there the DiD chain I took off and jt sprocket have more life in them than what's on there so buy a split link and I am sorted for a long time .

Re: Content provider

very shiny its making me miss my z 650 polishing looks great but I really hate doing it . I have spent week's polishing cases over the course of my life . a small tin of hammerite smooth black and a small brush and a bit of sand paper now to tidy up the foot peg hangers and frame be the job . I have a 16 tooth front sprocket on my transalp 600 now I only went for a small run on it and I like how it rides . it will be better on the road where I spend most my time anyway and I only do forestry tracks so will be fine in the wild jungles of Ireland I will still be well able to out run rabbits deer and other ferocious predators if any attack me :p its a relief to have it done I welded it on myself with an arc welder small stiches and a watering can . I took my time and got it perfectly square it was off a bit at the start but I gave it one run of about an inch to pull it . I don't recommend an arc welder though very slowly with a tig welder if needs be and keep the water lashed on to it is the way to go I think .

I had a front sprocket come loose on my SR500 back in the day when touring Switzerland..
Long story short ,I needed the sprocket welding on but the local workshop didnt want to do it as he didnt think it was safe and didnt want to be responsible if the chain come off again......(fair enough)...
After a while the bizzies was called as I was getting slightly cheesed off as you do when your stuck abroad and a long way from home and we ended up with me signing a letter saying if anything happened as a result of the welded sprocket it was on me, welding was done and I got home in one piece....;););)
Glad to hear youe transalp is behaving itself on them forest trails...I would love to do some forest trail riding on my Dommie but all the woodland over here is privately owned and if your busted it gets expensive.:(:(:(

its so funny how we don't talk anymore :D I just got home from collecting my transalp 600 fro my mothers where I was working on it because I keep the bike trailer there and I was going to take it to get welded somewhere else . well anyway with its new 16 tooth sprocket I was carrying the full load 2 givi e28 panniers full up with tools and weighing a ton small grinder extension leads welding rods ratchet sockets spanners torque wrench screw drivers welding shield hammer chisel and all the rest rickman ranger 42lt full with gear too and a dolly stool ratcheted on top I was going real handy carrying so much weight but the revs are way down . its a lot slower to pick up but I am sure it will have much longer legs that is what I want but when I put the slightly smaller 130/70 avon road rider on there it will change things again ? anyway I missed it while it was in hospital so I will give it a good run out tomorrow to see what its like . :thumbright:
