What is it with trailer boards? Are they actually designed to never work properly? Or do folk never bother to check them / wire them up / plug them in?

Was following a transit towing a large trailer earlier and the trailer board lights were not working. Surprise, surprise. I could only see the van's tail lights because I was sat so high up - anyone riding a pocket rocket or even driving a car wouldn't have had a prayer of seeing any lights at all.

Here's to "Sit up and Beg" riding positions.

On my Bikesafe day the police said that if a car is in the left hand lane at a roundabout and indicating left, the only thing you know for certain is that the car has a left indicator and it works. :(

The driver is just as likely to pull out to the right suddenly and go right round the roundabout.

There are loads of epitaphs on biker graveyards that read: "He had right of way".

and have loads of drivers suddenly lost the ability to look to the right overnight ? especially at t junctions. just charge out and hope for the best. pathetic. oh and why do people decide to overtake the car etc in front of them just as your 5 ft from a side slamming ? is their long distance eyesight really that bad ? happy now !!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

In the last two days I've had loads of numpties not seeing me, pulling out, turning in front of me, etc. It's like the Sunday morning from hell!

Nothing for weeks then loads in two days, maybe it's caused by some sort of solar flare activity or something! :p

A ,little trick I was taught by the Police training school. Is to sit back look at the car in fronts, front wheel either side and looking at their position in the car and you can see which way he is going to drive. With practice its like driving with the force you now when they are going to turn in your path.

Yeh , my greatest worry is someone opening there door on me:eek: , happened in the Lorry once and touch their door clean off:eek: , ever since put the spookes on me so always give a large berth.

Insedently they were okay just a "brown pant moment" and offered to tie it back on with me Ratchet straps:blah5::blah5: , local fuz said they were lucky not to loose their arm or hand and to check mirrors before opening door infuture.

Regarding the comments about faulty vehicle lights (of all kinds) Is the present outbreak of so many vehicles (mostly cars) with one or more lights not working really the result of the current absurd reliance on "Safety Cameras" instead of proper Traffic Policemen out there doing a proper, useful job.
Nowadays if you only drive at night, you can reasonably expect to get away with just about any traffic offence, except speeding, that's how it looks round here.
Take care.

I've had the problem with a few vehicles the problem is never the trailer board itself it always seems to be crap earthing and crap connections in the car/vehicles power socket. My l200 was like that when i got it everything worked fine then when i plugged in the trailer everytime i turned the indicators on it would short my internal thermometer, inclinometer and volt guage. Temporarily i unplugged it until i got home, lights are high enough on the car to be seen over the trailer and end of the day if you have to be that close to see them you shouldn't be driving, even the power ranger brigade would have to look ahead to see where they are going...............

My biggest rant with car lighting at the moment is mainly on new VW's but not only, it's these stupid Orange LEDS they are using for indicators which don't give off eough light to see if the are are or not even worse when they put them in a light cluster like VW and Lexus do

dunno bout trailer boards but is it just me or are there loads out there lately driving about with one faulty headlight?... seems round these here parts that every other car has one headlight out?

i wouldn't know about indicator lights as no fekker ever uses them grrrrrrr...
A friend of a friend has a small Peugeot of some sort, headlight bulb went.
Her Dad bought a bulb, £4.00. Tried to fit it and it defeated him. She ended up taking it to the main dealer who charged £45.00 to supply and fit a bulb. She had to wait two days before they could book her in.
This is not uncommon with newish vehicles. To change a bulb on some the whole front has to come off!
Blamed on crumple zone apparently.

Maybe this explains some of the one-eyed monsters.

I had a Vauxhall that required the battery removed for access to the nearside headlight, the offside one required the removal of lots of engine bits to reach.
The one reason Buses have two taillights on each side is to allow for one to blow and still have lights. The problem arises when they switched to LED's they use several types of fitting and each requires an earth wire on a fibreglass body.

It explains it but does not excuse it, just because something costs to get it fixed is no excuse to drive illegaly. It's just cost me £250 for some new tyres and MOT but it needed doing so i had to pay, i could just ride around with bald tyres and moan there too expensive but i don't, i do what most people do and sort it out.

If it takes 2 days to get in then thats 2 days you don't drive the vehicle, especially if it's a light as driving at night is dangerous enough as it is, especially with faulty lights.

Just my thoughts :)

I've been doing that for years .
My poor old missus thinks it's creapy to know what cars are doing before they do it,I aint gonna tell her you got to watch every little move the driver makes and then drop back and wait for it to happen:cool:

My toyota was a pain. Absolutely no point carrying a spare bulb set if you need to start taking fuse boxes , headlight ( and hence bumper off just to change a bulb )

Other issue with light boards , has anyone seen a trailer registration that actually matches the vehicle pulling it

Or a board with the lefthand indicator flashing when the vehicles righthand indicator is flashing.

think in the past it was acceptable in law to show a different number as long as you owned both vehicles and both were road legal, taxed etc...

The Military use this system as each piece of rolling stock has its own registration number.

I thik you are being too generous I very much doubt any of these guys are pulling military trailers full of s&^t goig to the local council skip site.

Funny though that bikes get pulled for wee number plates , although I admit I have never seen the point in it , but I have never see a trailer pulled over with completely the wrong reg on it

That is because it is hard to stop a trailer without stopping the car pulling it.:D
