The Armstrong 500 used to have Metzler tyres, ( Im not sure what type) the bike used to weave only when slowing down from 90 MPH.
Maybe the type of frame fitted to the tiger is not that stiff so adding the uneven tyre contact with the road they become too unstable.
stick a set of Karoos on the BMW simon and I suspect handling would be compromised over 60mph, My son has just bought a crm250 with full on knobblies on it, the bike is capable of 100mph buut I wouldn't fancy doing it its already compromised on road at 60!!!!!........I've just fitted a set of Mitas E07 on the AT and 70+ on the tarmac and they're a tad uncomfortable until you get used to them.

I suspect Triumph are just covering there arse.........

So to summarise then by the sound of it, the bike was never designed with offroad intentions purely as a road bike with offroad looks and centre of gravity and weight distribution are giving it some problems on the loose wet stuff with these tyres on fitted so warnings and "precautions" are being advised
