Why is that whenever it snows* in the UK (this is meant to mean south of the border, before anyone complains :D) and there are pictures on the news of drivers being "rescued", it is drivers of BMWs with wide low profile tyres that are always the ones getting into trouble? Are they really that thick to believe that their zero tread depth tyres are suitable for driving in snow?

Even my Mother-in-Law has winter tyres on her Corsa, for fecks sake - and when does it ever snow in Ireland?

* Snow in this context is meant to describe the iddly-piddly dusting of the white stuff that always brings the (South of) the UK to it's knees whenever it occurs.

We had about 10cm of snow last night. It was mayhem out on the roads,a 45 minute run took me more than two hours, cars were getting stuck and just abandoned all over the place. Our Rav4 might be a bit of a hairdressers car but it just chugged on through the snow without a problem.
Sadly I saw two nasty accidents. In one an ambulance was on it's side. The other was a couple of miles away, the Fire Brigade were cutting someone out of a car :(

When it started snowing yesterday and there was about a micron of snow covering the road I had the misfortune to follow a tit in a Merc who was crawling down the road as if it were sheet ice. Then as soon as we got to a clear road he drove of like a lunatic.

Now this morning people can't get out of my road, if only they'd try pulling away in second and didn't sit spinning their wheels.

I will tell you no other place in the UK can compare to East London for the shear stupidity when it comes to drivers, I was out last night when it was about 9pm so a good covering and these idiots where crashing into everything.. 5 accidents in 2 miles i witnessed :jerk:

Funny also how the fast food places where still sending there riders out on deliveries even on sheet ice ???

BMW AUDI AND MERC drivers really are twats, esp when the only experience the driver has had was an elephant....

I run a 15 year old Rav. Perfect car for this weather and fun to drive during the rest of the year.

Whilst I can see where your coming from and it's a comment I have made about our next door neighbours with the elephant etc you can't put all BMW, MERC and Audi drivers in one basket, just because I drive a Merc I'm a **** am I?

Basically comes down to training or lack of..

here in the uk we get very little "snow" especially the city folk so dont get/have the skills to drive in it..

you could make it compulsory to train but most would forget it in the blink of an eye....unless you have to drive.ride in it regularly you forget..

And the biggest complaint I have is why when the forecast is bad do people still venture out and drive the same.."pea brains" then block the roads for us experienced people..

Me if its going to be bad I just tell the wife book into a motel and sit it out, I just stay at home its safer.

4x4 and winter tyres wont help if the road is blocked by another vehicle..whatever make...its the driver at fault.

I blame the BBC ..ha ha over sensationalizes everything....and the London drivers area different full stop they understand nowt..but somehow they all get around..scares the **** out of me in my lorry too.

Have no idea fella you may be???? but Ive never met you or seen you drive ,,

This is the scenario.... The weather is pants , snow is on the ground you stop behind a bus as it boards and alights when out of no where a BMW on the wrong side of the road comes flying past miss judges his speed and smashes head on into a on coming car.. For most people that fact the road is white and not the normal black is enough to adjust there driving but not for mr BM ohhh nooo

I then see an Audi near Billet roundabout with a missing rear offside wheel as he again miss judged his speed and hit a central reservation ... And about 6 weeks ago I was hit up the ass by a Merc again yep you guessed it miss judged his speed again although im sure "he" may have been a she but there was some facial hair so cant be shore....

The elephant bit may have gone over some heads let me explain... I have a pal who is from Pakistan he's been in the UK a bit now but when he got here he had a international licence that he "purchased" yes thats right paid money for without any test when he was living back home, he then came here with said licence having never even driven a car and puchased a Ford focus that within about 4 days was the size of a KA, this is a common theme in my neck of the woods...

If you want an advanced driving experience just come to east London for the weekend as im sure if you can ride here and not die you will do fine anywhere in the world :thumbright:

Well in the said snow iv had my car piled into by a Landrove with big chunky off road tyres of all thing. Going of the tracks he drove straight to wards the parked cars in tending to turn as he would on tarmac, 7m skid mark and shunted my 4x4 in to his own car that was parked next to it. Got to say driving standards in the uk are not good.Bazz

Seems to be some misnaming here - "common sense" is far from common these days.
very true they should change it to "Rare sense" in the dictionary:D

BMW drivers never are very with it no matter what the conditions or tyre depth, they have there tin box with that blue and white badge and don't think about anything or give atoss about anything Audi drivers at the moment are just as bad. You can't blame the cars it's the knobheads behind the wheel thats the issue. When i had my SAAB i knew it was undriveable in snow so i left it home. The turbo was too big so if you pulled away in first it spun up and dug holes if you pulled away in second it stalled due to the turbo lag. My L200 gives me no issues what so ever, even after the snow turned to sheet ice last year the L200 drive like it was on tarmac.

I must be a tosser at the moment aswell as i have the 1150 gs in the garage until thursday
