Hi Folks,

I have an older 2001 Carbadero which has been recently using a little oil, nothing too serious just needs 1/4 litre top up every 2-3 months, I ride it everyday and do about 40-50 miles on average. It also did a 3k mile trip round Europe in the summer :)

I do have a little mechanical experience so I was thinking that it could be an engine breather pipe (PCV) blockage stopping it from equalising the pressure correctly.

Other than this it runs fine, I have looked in the workshop manual and it seems to mention a secondary air supply system? I assume its this?

Any help from you guys would be great before I plunge in :D

Sounds like nothing to worry about to me. You're saying quarter litre per 3000 miles plus. (I change my oil at about that mileage) In 4k miles in Morocco in summer I used 1.5 litres. No visible sign that its burning oil. No smoke from exhausts.
How many mile on yours? My 1999 has 130k. Change oil frequently 2-3k and Keep it topped up is the advise I have stuck to. Seems to work:thumbup:

Its got about 50k miles on. So a little far from your beast :D

Just wondered weather it could be a blocked crankcase breather because its only start doing it since the summer. It could do with another oil change, even though Honda have massive intervals.

No smoke no smell no nothing, its all good.

If it were a BMW boxer engine, a quarter litre would be nothing. On a Honda that's a remarkably huge oil consumption! Seriously, though, I doubt it's anything to worry about. By all means check breathers etc as a precaution.
