I am looking at changing the air filter on my carb 99 vara and can see various ones at various prices.

Is there an advantage to having a particular one? Did see a YouTube video of someone making one out of an iPod case (I still have mine so might be beat?)

Aint got a vara but a Alp with carbs so similar results,

Went from a std honda to a Web moto std no real difference [paper cartridges].

Changed to pipercross layered foam type and wow ,pulls better in mid/top range suppose its the free air flow and mpg went from 54 to 59 at 5000rpm on a 100 mile motorway bash, around town no real difference so take it that as the Alp is weak below 4k and rich above . This is were the saving is made on the motorway at steady speed.

There is a few of us with the pipercross [more expensive than paper performance filters] but I prefer the foam to paper just a personal thing some have used the paper ones for years, Yen & Austin come to mind with no detrimental effects.

Will not have the hasel of changing every 12k will leave till fuel consumption rises hence blockage then clean and re-use.

hope this helps
