I have a year 2000 RD 07a that has a hairline fissure in the engine case. I am looking for an engine. I just wondered why the engine code states rd04 while the frame is RD07. Are the crank cases the same on both models?

Hi & Welcome

All RD07 and RD07A engines have the RD04 code.

Are you sure that they are hairline cracks and not paint defects? Have you had the area NDT crack checked (penetrant dye or magnetic dye)?

Thanks for the info. Sadly, very sure. I thought oil was coming from the clutch gasket cover just below, changed that but no...oil leaks pretty badly when under pressure. It seems to be a stress crack coming from the front mount point. Done more than 100, 000 and often two up with luggage. I vainly tried a fancy liquid metal thing but no joy of course. Maybe blow back caused it...possible?
