Hey all, I'm helping a friend with his 1972 Honda XL250. At some point the oil pump ingested the tip of a chipped gear tooth and jammed up. This caused the top end to oil starve and destroy itself. I was able to find a replacement head and cam shaft on ebay and am in the process of putting it back together. Both the original and the replacement came to me with a pile of loose nuts and bolts. I've been able to figure out where everything goes with a couple exceptions. I think the replacement head came with a couple extra bolts and a nut that aren't needed (they don't appear to belong anywhere). It also came with a single washer that is confounding me. This appears to be needed, as there was a matching one with the old head. They have similar witness marks that indicate they were exposed to the environment. My best guess is that it goes under the flange nut on the front left stud. This sits below a little cover with an o-ring. The two studs on the right side have copper washers and I don't think it goes on the left rear as that one is on the inside and not exposed to environment. If you are a visual person, here's a link to a 2 minute video that shows it. If you know, feel free to let me know here on the forum or comment on the video.
Many thanks.
