Probably because you are not required to have an MOT to reinsure your bike .
But your insurance would have been invalid in you where driving on the public highway without an MOT .

Lucky nothing happened in the interim , or you did not get stopped by the coppers.
They do have those number plate readers in cars nowadays

An urban myth I am afraid. The insurance remains valid.

But it is mad that you get sent reminders for tax and insurance but not MOTs.

 

Best way to prevent this is to get a year calander.....xrv one would be good

then at jan 1st transfere all mot tax and insurance details for all vehicles onto the calander, also house insurance and contents .

Oh nearly forgot and the wifes birthday:lol: but dont bother with the mother inlaw as she`ll remind you in plenty of time:bom:.

I never trust the DVLA as they have forgotten reminders loads of times and its your "legal" responsibility to be covered.

But it shows the dvla system catches for no mot pitty the insurance companies dont check .

I gladly pointed out their error to them when they tried to tell me I was illegally using the bike since they had it on there records as a write off even after it had been MOT twice since the accident.

It's easily done, i nearly forgot last year and only realised when a m8 mentioned my MOT would be due soon and i was convinced it was months off. Checked my docs and it was 4 weeks off, i couldn't believe it.

Insurance reminds you, TAX reminds you, MOT..... oh they aren't making any money from that are they?

 

Did the same at Xmas Tax due 1st January doin it online ................. NO MOT ran out end October :bom: got MOT that pm sorted Now both due at the same time !!! straight after Xmas expense :sign6:

You can add reminders in the XRV personal calendar. Only you can see entries in that calendar, then you can add a reminder. At this point the forum will email you to tell you the event is coming up. You can put minimal detail in such as bike due Mot. No need for reg numbers or anything like that.

I still get reminders from the garage about the MOT for my car.
I sold that in 2007.
I think it is because some garages are computerised and keep records up to date. Most bike shops are little family businesses and only have the minimum needed.
I expect if you bought a bike from a main dealer and continued to use them for the life of the bike, then there would be a record and reminders sent.

Welcome to Northern Ireland, where MOT & tax reminders are both issued as a courtesy by DVANI, although they occasionally miss one (our MOTs are still government run - long story, lost in the mists of time).

Once you have your tax and MOT discs, they must (by law) be displayed on the vehicle - LHS of car winscreen, or LHS of bike, although I've never heard of anyone being prosecuted for non-display. Having them clearly visible also acts as a visual reminder for me, as 3x bikes + 2x cars = 10x dates to remember (yes, my wife reckons its MY fault if her car's tax or MOT expires...).

The MOT disc comes on an A5 paper certificate, which you send off with your tax application and insurance certificate, and the fee. It still irks me that I pay more to tax each of my bikes than my mum pays for her (low emissions) car - and that 2 of my bikes can only be taxed for 12 months (not 6) because they are under 600cc! The admin charge for cancellation means that it isn't really worthwhile - sounds like the government is profiteering...okay, so sue me for treason!

That said, keeping my 3x bikes taxed, tested, and insured still only costs about the same as my wife's annual gym membership...and I think I get a better return on the investment - although mine is more psychological than physical.
