Hi There.
Hoping for some help :toothy9:
I have a weird problem with my 94' XRV750, or maybe a combination of several problems?

First: When my sidestand is down, the orange lights is on (this is normal)
To start the engine I must have my sidestand up and the clutch lever in, orelse it wont start!!. (sounds not normal)
When I take my bike into neutral with the engine running, and take down my sidestand, the engine just stops.
The bike will not run on idle with the sidestand down (it just stops)

Second: The neutral lights do not work either. I have a feeling that this two problems are connected to each other....
or maybe I just have to change my sidestand switch and everything will be okay? and maybe the neutral light is start work again?

Or is the problem in the clutch switch or an another switch....? Have anyone had this problem before?
Thanks.

If the neutral light dont work you will have the problem you describe as the bike thinks its in gear and you cant have the side stand down and engine running when in gear
Take the cover off the front sprocket and have a look at the connection on the neutral switch i've just had a similar problem the connector was loose on the neutral switch i just squeezed it a bit with a plyers to make it a tight fit which solved my problem
Ohh and welcome to the forum:thumbup:

Uhhh I did not work...I removed the front sprocket and checked both connections under there, my neutral light is still out and I have the same problem as earlier. Hmm maybe the wire to the neutral switch is broken somewhere...or maybe I have an another wire problem. I have to keep on checking;)

Sooo then ....did you function check the switch with the cover off? Easy enough with a multimeter. With the transmission in neutral
their should be continuity from the switch to a suitable ground such as the crankcase and obviously no continuity with it in gear.
See the the nice wiring diagram....:p. Note the diodes also in this circuit which are part of the safety interlock. Haynes explains this circuit
very well starting at 9-23.

Silly question, but do you know that the Neutral Lamp itself is working OK?

Anyway, here's an unscrambled wiring diagram (from the Haynes) of the starting circuit for the RD07 Africa Twin -

View attachment 18129

All with the correct wiring colours (as far as I can tell as I don't have an AT myself). As you should be able to make out from the diagram, there is only one way for the Neutral Light to come on, and that is through the Neutral Switch.

Hope the diagram is some help.

touch the wire to a clean metal part on the bike this should bring the light on if it doesnt you may have a bulb gone on the dash if it does come on the neutral switch could be faulty
The wire is green and red but my eyes arnt to good so that red could be orange or brown but definatly green and something

Hi Folks.
Thanks very much for you wiring diagram, I will follow the circuits and check

I am not sure if the green bulb/diode itself is working. Have to check that also.

I will open up again and check the continuity from the switch to a suitable ground. I am not so good at this but where is the neutral switch located? :sad5:

I am really happy for all feedback from all of you :D :D :D

I will make some new tests this afternoon.....but dont know hov to test if the green bulb/diode in fact are working or not.

Here you go

If you ground the wire from the Neutral Switch to Earth, then the Neutral Light should come on. If the light doesn't come on, then you should confirm that the bulb is actually OK before assuming that you have a wiring fault. You will have to get into the dash to get to the Neutral Light.

If you have a multimeter (or indeed a bulb and battery tester) you can check the operation of the Neutral Switch. There should be a circuit to Earth (from the "stud" on the end of the switch in the photo) only when the bike is in Neutral.

I had a similar problem ... but I just can't remember what the symptoms were ...doh

But anyways, turned out that the wire connection fitted onto the spade connector was loose and giving a " ghost " neutral light. Whipped the connector off, re crimped the end, and away she goes.

Mind you, my switch was so covered in crud that I had a job locating it

Hope this helps

Thanks again XR Mad and Lutin for nice pics. :p
I managed to find the switch (under all the dirt and old grease)
I grounded the wire as you told me, from the Neutral Switch to Earth and the green neutral Light just came on!! :sunny: jippi

That means that the bulb is working, I also think that the sidestand switch is working since I have the yellow lights on when the sidestand is down and it goes out when I take it up.....The engine stops when I take it down. I guess that is a good sign.

And the conclusion to this must be that the neutral switch might be gone???

I got a used one from a MC breaker's yard (or what you call it) in a very good shape, I changed it and, Voila....*Its working:toothy10:
So thanks very much to everyone who has helped me out with this problem. I am really grateful!!

The old switch was tottaly worn out on the inside.
